What kind of game is this? Sovereign Syndicate is a new role-playing game on Steam that throws you into a Victorian London to track down a mysterious cult.
Since January 15, 2024, you can download the game on Steam. The first 23 reviews have already given the game a 100% positive rating, so Sovereign Syndicate should at least be worth a first look.
The game is developed by Crimson Herring Studios, and as the developers themselves say under the trailer (via YouTube), the RPG hit Disco Elysium was an inspiration for the team:
What to expect in Sovereign Syndicate: In the new steampunk role-playing game, it’s primarily about exploring, understanding, and uncovering London, its inhabitants, and its secrets. There won’t be any combat, which doesn’t mean you can just click through this RPG easily.
Instead, some interesting features will ensure that Sovereign Syndicate could become an exciting gaming experience for you:
- You choose one of three possible characters. Each character experiences their own story, which is interwoven with the others.
- The characters have different abilities that you need to develop further. The abilities you use frequently will continue to develop. However, abilities that you neglect will also deteriorate accordingly.
- NPCs respond to your characters, your gender, your origin, and your words. So you need to think carefully, use your abilities correctly, and adapt your character if you want to achieve the right results.
- In addition, there is the tarot card system: Tarot cards also determine the success of your actions and dialogues – similar to how the dice work in Baldur’s Gate 3.
- You can also expand your tarot card deck and customize it to fit your character and playstyle.
The game is played from an isometric perspective. As the trailer shows, the art style fits wonderfully with the steampunk setting and effectively conveys the feeling of a Victorian London where wealth, poverty, intrigue, and secrets are closely intertwined.
The game promises you a large open world to explore in order to uncover new information. You visit dark alleys, the London docklands, brothels, and opium dens.
Depending on how you play and which character you have chosen, the game offers 20 different scenarios and definitely has a certain replay value.
