What kind of game is this? “HoloCure – Save the Fans” is a free action roguelite on Steam that was released on August 17, 2023, and developed by a single person. The gameplay closely resembles the surprise hit “Vampire Survivors”.
You find yourself in an open area with your playable character and control your figure using the WASD keys in a top-down perspective. Opponents approach you from all sides, but unlike in Vampire Survivor, you are not fighting against any bloodthirsty monsters, but against your own fans.
You take on the role of a VTuber and are overwhelmed by an army of your own fans. To defend yourself, you grab various weapons and items and give your admirers a good beating. According to the Steam description, you can free your fans from their mind control in this way.
The playable characters in HoloCure are indeed inspired by existing V-Tubers who belong to the Japanese VTuber agency “Hololive Production”.

Why is the game free? In a post on Steam, the developer of HoloCure explained that he designs the roguelite as a side project in his free time.
His main job is as an animator for video games, from which he earns his main income. On the side, he occasionally freelances for various animation studios and is not dependent on revenue from the sale of the game.
For him, it only matters that he can live comfortably, find the time to work on the game, and that players have fun with the title.
