At QuakeCon 2019, Bethesda revealed new details about the upcoming shooter DOOM Eternal. This will feature the asymmetrical PvP mode “Battlemode”, and several features were showcased in a gameplay presentation.
What is the Battlemode? In the Battlemode of DOOM Eternal, two players control demons against one player as a fully equipped Doomslayer. The matches take place in arenas where only the three players and smaller NPC demons are present.
A round is decided when the Doomslayer or the demons are killed. The second demon must die within 20 seconds after the first one – otherwise, a respawn occurs.
To make it more challenging for the Doomslayer, there are five different demons you can play, each with different abilities.
These demons are available to you
Three of the playable demons were introduced by Bethesda at QuakeCon 2019. You can see their abilities in the video here:
Revenant: The Revenant looks like a decaying zombie encased in armor. He is supposed to be the most versatile of the playable demons. His abilities are:
- A jetpack and a dash
- Shoulder rockets
- A targeted rocket barrage
Pain Elemental: The Pain Elemental is one of the iconic figures from the DOOM series. The elementals are flying blobs of flesh with many arms, a single eye, and a huge mouth filled with too many teeth. The abilities of the Pain Elemental are:
- The ability to fly
- A rechargeable soul shield that protects it in the air
Mancubus: The Mancubus is a massive mound of flesh, muscle, and weaponry that moves slower than the other demons but hits significantly harder. His abilities are:
- Flamethrowers and heavy guns
- Significantly more health points than other demons
- A smoke bomb to obscure his position
These abilities are shared among the demons: In addition to the individual abilities of the demons, they share some abilities. All demons can spread poisons or similar effects on the ground that harm the slayers.
They can also summon NPC demons. These smaller enemies can significantly harass and distract the slayers.
Are there more demons? In addition to the three mentioned demons, two more are expected to join. Current information varies. The Arch-Vile and the Marauder, or brand new Doom Hunters, are likely planned.
The developers have confirmed that additional demons will be implemented later, along with free updates.
When can I play DOOM Eternal? DOOM Eternal will be released on November 22, 2019, for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. DOOM Eternal is also scheduled to launch on Google Stadia.
