A popular feature in Pokémon GO is battling in raids. Now trainers are wishing for a feature from the main series games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We from MeinMMO will show you what it’s about and want to know your opinion on the idea.
What are raids? In Pokémon GO, trainers can not only catch monsters in the wild but also battle them in raids. Here, various raid bosses can be challenged at different difficulty levels. If you win the battle, you will receive, along with a variety of items and experience points, an encounter with the respective Pokémon.
Raids with legendary and mythical Pokémon as well as with Mega Evolutions are especially popular with players. However, it takes significant support from the community to defeat these. This often leads to problems. For this reason, some players are now wishing for a raid feature that exists in a similar form in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are two main series games of Pokémon that were released on November 18, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch. These are the first to feature the monsters of the 9th generation of games.
This new raid feature is desired by trainers
What problem is being addressed? If someone wants to secure a legendary or mythical Pokémon from the Level 5 raid or the new top raids, they usually need other trainers to help them with the fight. Most of these raid bosses cannot be tackled alone at all.
However, not every player can rely on a local community with which raids can be played together. This often leads to problems as some players are unable to secure the monsters and sometimes go empty-handed.
This is also the case for reddit user ighorlobianco, who openly addresses this issue in his post and wishes for a feature that allows solo play (via reddit.com)
He writes: “Would you do more raids if they could be done solo but with fewer rewards? I see so many raids that I can’t do due to a lack of people/community. If it were possible to play alone and only… get 10% of the rewards, I would give Niantic much more money.”

What is different in Scarlet and Violet? In the main series games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, trainers can also participate in raid battles. Unlike in Pokémon GO, they have the possibility to train their monsters accordingly, thus creating a strong raid alone.
Here, trainers of the main games also do not have to forgo rewards, as ighorlobianco suggests for a similar feature in Pokémon GO. Such a feature in Pokémon GO would therefore spare trainers some trouble and also ease raids for solo players.

How is the proposal received in the community?
Agreement from the community: The issue surrounding the more difficult raids bothers not only ighorlobianco. Many other players have also faced it multiple times and are wishing for a corresponding solution.
Many of them would be willing to forgo part of the rewards if they could secure the desired Pokémon without relying on other trainers. In the comments on reddit, the following statements can be found (via reddit.com):
- flatmatt0: “Yes. The only rewards that really interest me are the Pokémon and the various candies and Mega Energy.”
- mdmotlitor: “I feel the same way. The special candies are nice too, but in the end, I throw most of the revives and potions away that I receive anyway.”
- alphafirestar: “Definitely. However, a ‘Start now’ option needs to be added. Waiting for the timer at a raid I want to play alone is terrible. That aside, I believe that the rewards could be adjusted to provide an incentive for various things, rather than just nerfing them. For example, you could get more special candies, stardust, and potions for solo raids, and more XL special candies, EXP, and TMs for group raids. The rewards could even change with different events.”
- HundoHavlicek: “Yes, I would raid more. The rewards are quite useless at this point.”
Trainers have long been wishing for a “Start” button in Pokémon GO. Especially in easier raids, it’s annoying when you have to wait several minutes for the start. Whether this will eventually find its way into the game remains to be seen.
Counterarguments to the idea of the raid feature
Trainers use alternatives: However, there are also players who would not be willing to forgo part of the rewards just to play alone. Reddit user jonquil_dress also tackles his raids with the help of Poke Genie.
He writes (via reddit.com): “No, I would do less if the rewards were worse. Poke Genie lets me raid whenever a 5* is nearby.”
But some trainers also use Campfire to connect with other players for raids in Pokémon GO. However, they are not always in immediate proximity, which is why playing together is only possible with the help of Remote Raid Passes.
These were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to allow for remote raids. However, they are now only available for purchase with PokéCoins in the in-game shop.
What is Poke Genie? Poke Genie is an external app that allows you to host your own raids or join other trainers’ raids. Depending on how you want to get involved there, you will also need corresponding Remote Raid Passes.
Additionally, such external software is generally not welcomed by Niantic and violates their terms of use, so you should use this app at your own risk.
