In recent updates, the meta in League of Legends has been somewhat shaken up. The focus was primarily on damage, healing, and defense, which were either strengthened or weakened. Among the changes, Master Yi, a champion hated by many, suffered greatly. However, he is set to receive significant buffs with the upcoming Patch 12.13.
What is the situation of Master Yi?
- In almost every survey, Master Yi is among the top 10 most hated champions in LoL. This is because a good Yi can deal a lot of damage and especially evade many enemy attacks. With the healing from his “W”, team fights under the enemy tower become significantly easier.
- The recent updates, however, have not been kind to him. Enemies have gained more defense, while healing has been generally weakened. This hits Master Yi particularly hard. With Patch 12.11, his base stats were also weakened and the true damage from his “E” was reduced.
- The decline is even clearly visible in the win rate. With Patch 12.9, Master Yi still won 51.01% of his ranked matches from Iron upwards, but this rate has dropped to 49.49% in Patch 12.12 (via MetaScr).
But with the upcoming Patch 12.13, Master Yi could become a real monster again. Riot Games plans to buff the champion.

Increased attack range and more frequent healing
What is changing? With the upcoming update, Master Yi’s attack range will be significantly increased. While he could previously hit enemies at a range of 125, this will now be 175.
However, the biggest change concerns his ability Meditate (W):
- The costs will be modified. Instead of 50 mana, you will now pay 40 mana + 6% of maximum mana per second (maximum 4 seconds).
- In return, the cooldown will be reduced from 28 to 9 seconds.
- The ability will also grant 60% tenacity (immunity to CC) for the first 0.5 seconds.
The changes to Master Yi are already playable on the test server.
When will the changes be released? Patch 12.13 is expected to be released on July 13. However, adjustments may still be made before the update is published.
Fans fear a strong Yi in low Elo
How are the changes received? Mixed. Many agree that Master Yi needs a buff, as his win rate in Platinum or higher is below 47%. Thus, he is nearly useless in high Elo.
However, the changes to the “W” worry some players. The champion could dominate inexperienced and weaker players in low Elo, as the new champion Bel’Veth currently does. This is likely to make tower dives much more frequent.
What else does the update bring? With Patch 12.13, the new champion Nilah is expected to be released. This AD Carry focuses on a whip, dashes, and additional experience points for last hits. This makes Nilah very dangerous.
