In Diablo 2: Resurrected there is a new update with some small changes. One of these changes addresses a bigger problem for some players: deleted characters. At least partially.
This is included in the patch: With the new update from October 12th, it is now more difficult to delete your own characters. The whole procedure now requires several steps, and accidental deletions should no longer occur.
At least on Xbox, you now have to explicitly go into character management to delete a character, then select the deletion option using the X button and confirm the deletion by holding down another button. Accidental deletions are hardly possible now.
The update has been released for all platforms (PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch).
Disappearing Characters and More Server Issues
What was the problem? The deletion of characters happened accidentally for many players, especially on PC. There, the deletion button was just a red X under the characters. A small thread on reddit is just one of many that have surfaced.
Some players clicked it and confirmed without thinking – because they assumed they were exiting the game. The complaints about this kept resurfacing. Now it should not happen so easily anymore.

What else does the patch fix? The patch also includes improvements to server performance. In the past, this has led to characters seemingly disappearing. Whenever there was a connection failure to the servers, the character list was not displayed correctly.
This led players to believe that their online characters had been deleted along with their progress. This has been heavily criticized in the community recently. With the new patch, it should happen much less often that characters disappear.
Meanwhile, many fans are still waiting for the first Ladder – the Seasons of Diablo 2: Resurrected. These did not launch with the release but were meant to be released ‘later’. However, there is still no new information about it.
The Ladder is particularly the reason for veterans to play Diablo 2 at all. The ranking list there allows them to compare themselves with other players. When exactly the Ladders will come, we don’t know yet:
