A new MMORPG named RISE is being developed in Korea. It is set to take place in a dark medieval fantasy world and will focus on the story. An initial prologue trailer resembles The Witcher.
What kind of MMORPG is this? RISE will be a new game from the developer NXN and is still early in development. It is set to be created in Unreal Engine and will be released for PC, consoles, and mobile.
An initial trailer does not show gameplay but rather the general direction of the game. The shown material resembles the Witcher series and depicts a character traveling through wastelands, dark forests, and icy mountains with his horse and sword. Along the way, he encounters monsters in the form of bloodthirsty wolves.
The game itself is said to focus on realism according to MMOCulture. Therefore, motion capture will be used for the characters in the game.
Emotions and story are said to play an important role
How is the MMORPG structured? RISE is said to focus on the story. This should feel realistic and evoke many emotions in the players. Darkness and brutality are likely to play a role.
So far, the following is known about the game’s content:
- Groups in RISE consist of 5 players.
- However, there will also be large battles with many players.
- The MMORPG will incorporate some RTS elements. Recently, Kingdom Under Fire 2 experimented with such content.
- One goal is entrance into eSports.
No further details about RISE are available at this time, as the game is still in early development.
What kind of developer is this? NXN, the studio behind the game, formed from a team that created the mobile MMORPG Raven, released by Netmarble in 2015.
The game is still running in Korea today but was shut down in the global version.
Will the game be released here? There is no official statement regarding the release. According to MMOCulture, the CEO of the company stated that the goal is to “leave emotions that users around the world can remember through realistic stories and the gameplay experience.”
This at least suggests that RISE will not be released solely in Korea.
Another MMORPG that aims to be cross-platform and has some interesting approaches is Project Ragnarök, which we already introduced to you in detail in June.
