In Destiny 2, Bungie has announced many changes to the classes, and one of them affects the Warlocks. The change is so massive that it frees your class from a long-standing obligation: the duty of the healer.
What has Bungie announced? In the latest TWiD post (via bungie.net) for Destiny 2, Bungie has announced many changes regarding the various subclasses. These are set to be activated with “The Final Shape” and nerf strong abilities while buffing weak ones. However, the most important change is that of the Warlocks. The Well of Radiance was considered the ultimate healing ability and was essential for DPS phases in raids and dungeons.
Many Warlocks were therefore virtually forced to equip the Well. But with the upcoming change, that compulsion could change, as the nerfs are so devastating that using it may no longer be worthwhile.
Titan becomes the better alternative
What will change? To give you an idea of how severe the nerf to the Warlocks is, we have listed the part of the change in our grey box. Click this for information:
Changes for the Well of Radiance (EN)
- Well of Radiance:
- Now grants radiant for 8 seconds when players exit the Well of Radiance area.
- Reduced player survivability while standing in the Well of Radiance aura.
- Reduced healing per second from 100 to 50 health points, matching restoration x2.
- Increased heal on cast from 40 to 300 health points.
- Reduced damage resistance vs. non-boss combatants from 40% to 20%.
- Reduced damage resistance vs. boss combatants from 40% to 10%.
- Note: damage resistance vs. enemy players is unchanged.
- Increased maximum Orbs of Power from defeating targets while in your Well of Radiance aura from 4 to 5.
What other alternatives are there? In fact, there aren’t many who can take on the role of healer. The Warlock directly provides a healing effect, damage reduction, and buff in their Well, but these effects have been massively reduced, except for the damage buff.
As an alternative, the Titan’s bubble offers good effects that can be utilized in boss fights. Players now receive a Void shield when passing through this bubble. Guardians nearby also benefit from a temporary shield against damage.
However, the buff “Weapons of Light” is no longer included in the Titan package and must be activated with the exotic “Helm of Saint-14.” Those who observe this change will notice that Guardians will soon use the same strategies for boss fights as they did back in the “Destiny 1” days. Back then, there were no Well Warlocks, and one fully relied on the Titan’s support abilities.
Do we have to completely give up on the Well-Warlock? Not entirely. The Titan’s bubble now offers much better reasons to use it instead of the Well, but in easier activities, the Warlock’s ultimate is still good.
The damage reduction has been affected, but if you equip the exotic “The Deer,” you benefit from a 25% higher damage reduction in Rifts and in the Well. This way, you can at least increase your endurance in battle and still use the holy Well and be useful.
