In Destiny 2, as part of the Halloween event Festival of the Lost, the mysterious murder quest has gone live. However, the supposed highlight of the festivities has so far disappointed the fans.
Many fans were looking forward to this. With the Weekly Reset on October 30th, the highly anticipated and heavily promoted mystery quest at the Festival of the Lost went live – at least the first step. However, most Guardians probably expected more from this task.
The Missing Cryptarch – Here’s How the 1st Quest Step Goes
Here’s what the quest is about: Master Ives, the former Cryptarch of the Reef, has apparently been murdered. For the Guardians, it’s now about solving this murder case and avenging this old friend.
How to get the quest: The new exotic festival quest “The Missing Cryptarch” has been available since the weekly reset on October 30th at Amanda Holiday in the Tower Hangar. Just talk to her, and you’ll receive the quest directly.

Here’s what you need to do for the first quest step: The first quest step requires you to retrieve the 10 lost pages from the records of the missing Cryptarch. You can obtain these by decrypting legendary or exotic engrams as well as from challenging enemies in the EDZ on Earth.
There are two efficient ways to quickly obtain the required pages:
- Complete the public event “Glimmer Extraction of the Fallen” in the EDZ heroically. With the numerous enemies with yellow health bars, you should already have the pages after a heroic completion.
- Visit the Cryptarch Master Rahool in the Tower. Buy and decrypt 10 legendary engrams from him. Then the first quest step is already done.
How and when does the quest continue? The new mystery quest is apparently timegated, so it’s behind a time lock. After you have collected the 10 pages, you will receive the next quest step, but this cannot currently be completed.

The decryption of the pages cannot currently be cracked, and Amanda Holiday will reach out to you when there are updates on this. How long the Guardians will have to wait for Amanda’s response is not known.
It is possible that the quest will continue with the next daily reset on October 31st at 7:00 PM. However, a leak from a reliable Reddit user states that the quest spans three weeks. So it could very well be that the Guardians now have to wait until the next Weekly Reset before the quest continues.
What could the reward be? Nothing is officially known about this. It is highly likely to be an exotic item, as the quest itself is exotic.

However, there are speculations and hints that it could be the exotic heavy machine gun Thunderlord from Destiny 1, which now serves as a kind of preview of the return of heavy machine guns in December.
That’s why fans are disappointed with the festival quest
This is what fans on Reddit think about the quest: Many players were convinced that Bungie was saving the best for last with the promoted mystery quest at the end of the festival. Many at least expected a short mission or a small challenge.
Instead, there was a quest step that can be completed in five minutes without any further effort through normal means. If you choose the route to the Cryptarch, you can do it even in seconds. After that, there’s nothing more you can do but wait – possibly even until the next Weekly Reset.
Here, many definitely expected more – including prominent Destiny players like Gigz. Because Bungie has shown that timegated content can also be packaged more elegantly with the Whisper quest. There are concerns that Bungie has been lazy again and may artificially stretch a short quest line over several weeks.
Now fans hope that the quest will at least continue with the next daily reset and that they won’t have to wait until next week.
What do you think of this quest? Did you expect more?
