In a new trailer, the creators of Sons of the Forest showcase new gameplay for the upcoming horror game. The video features various weapons and details that await you in the survival title.
What is Sons of the Forest?
- The new survival game continues the story of The Forest, one of the best survival games for PC.
- Alone or in co-op with up to 8 players, you should survive on an island and uncover the secrets. You will defend against cannibals and mutants.
- Sons of the Forest is the most anticipated game on Steam and will be released in Early Access for PC on February 23. There is no information regarding a release on PlayStation or Xbox.
This is the new trailer: Shortly before the release, the US site IGN released a trailer they were provided with exclusively. This focuses on the multiplayer aspect of Sons of the Forest.
Several players can be seen gathering resources together and building a log cabin, a small base, and traps with the new building system. Fights against the various enemies in the game are also shown.

NPCs react to you – and a secret ending awaits?
These are the details: The video shows some scenes that hint at the features of Sons of the Forest. Although the emphasis is on multiplayer, some details can be gleaned:
- Weapons have specific effects; for example, you can stun enemies with a shock stick.
- Enemies react to you and show real fear if you are too cruel – and they actively hack at your house.
- Arrows stick in enemies – whether this is just a visual effect or if you can collect them again, we do not know.
- Building works “systematically”; you place items at positions and thus create buildings
However, the last scene is particularly exciting, in which the character places their hand in a hollow in a wall to open a locked door. The first part already had different endings that revealed more about the hidden story of the game.
Since you might crash on the same island in Sons of the Forest while actually searching for a billionaire, there may be even more background story here.
What fans say: The response to the video and the game is positive. On YouTube, the video received over 723,000 views and nearly 29,000 likes in less than 19 hours. Users praise the developers as “top-tier devs” and are excited about the shown gameplay, especially the reactions of the enemies.
Also on reddit, especially the enemies and their design are well-received, although at least one user notes that the bow could be too strong – as it was already in the first part. There is also discussion about the possible ending, but we do not want to spoil.
Sons of the Forest will be released on the 23rd only in Early Access after it was actually planned to release the game fully. Whether the survival game offers multiple endings and whether they will be directly available in the game starting Thursday, we unfortunately do not know yet. It is also not yet clear how long the Early Access will last.
The developers are still withholding information about the game. There was a preview test from IGN last year, and hardly any posts and content are published on Twitter, YouTube, and so on. You will likely find out how Sons of the Forest really will be on Thursday.
