To prepare you for the gaming year 2022, we will tell you the most important releases from the shooter market. Here you will find PvP, PvE, and PvPvE games that are set to release for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch in 2022. However, the announced dates may change before the release.

The listed games are exclusively sorted alphabetically. This list is therefore not a ranking, but an overview of the most important online shooter releases in 2022 for all platforms.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – For PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? After many rumors, official confirmations are slowly coming in that the latest Call of Duty in 2022 will be the sequel to the popular Modern Warfare from 2019.
Not much is currently known about Modern Warfare 2, but there are some leaks. However, these should be taken with caution until there is an official confirmation:
- This will probably be the last CoD on PS4 and Xbox One
- It is expected to release already in October, a month earlier than usual
- The campaign is said to continue the story of CoD MW
- There will be another collaboration with Warzone, possibly even directly Warzone 2
- The coop mode could be oriented to ‘Escape from Tarkov’
- The multiplayer is expected to benefit from many map remakes
- Since CoD 2023 will likely be skipped, CoD MW2 will be the largest title in the shooter series so far

ExoMecha – For PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? ExoMecha is an MMO shooter that is said to be free-to-play. It is primarily a battle royale, but other multiplayer modes are also available. As the name suggests, the game combines 2 sci-fi elements – exo-suits and large mechs.
In the trailer, you can see the action reminiscent of a mix of Transformers and Titanfall:
How does the shooter play? ExoMecha places great emphasis on a flexible class and abilities system.
Your soldiers with exo-suits can equip abilities, weapons, and gadgets as you wish, but you are limited in number. For example, if you want to have two active abilities, you must give up a weapon and all passive abilities in return. You can even make these changes during a battle royale match to adapt to the circumstances.
Your Titanfall-like mechs are also important. These are available to you like vehicles in a match. The mechs must be customized before each round and are very versatile: in addition to large robots with sword and shield, there are also agile metal spiders and robo-dragons in the game.
When will the game be released? The game has been announced for Q1 2022. However, a specific date is currently not known.
Isonzo – For PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Isonzo is the next PvP shooter from the makers of Tannenberg and Verdun. Once again, World War I is the setting, this time the mountains of Italy are the battlefield.

How does the shooter play? Following the trench battles from Verdun and the control battles in Tannenberg, Isonzo focuses on a new game mode. In the mountains or destroyed cities of Italy, one team attacks while another defends. The elevation differences that the setting offers are expected to strongly influence the strategies you will need to rely on.
The game is centered around large battles with up to 64 players. Developer M2H emphasizes how authentically they want to maintain the graphics, gameplay, and atmosphere. Accordingly, your weapon arsenal consists of the most important weapons from World War I, including poison gas and mortars.
When will the game be released? The buy-to-play game is expected to be released in early 2022. There is currently no exact date.
Overwatch 2 – For PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Overwatch 2 is the long-awaited sequel to Blizzard’s hero shooter. With a variety of characters, each with their own personality and special skills, the game resembles a mix of a PvP shooter and a MOBA.

How does the shooter play? The second part doesn’t change much, but some elements have been partially dramatically revised. An unpopular game mode has been removed, teams have been reduced to 5 players, and heroes have been drastically reworked in some cases. Blizzard hopes to achieve a more intense and faster gameplay.
The biggest new feature is a co-op campaign that is expected to be played many times due to the many characters with their new skill trees. Additionally, the contents of Overwatch 1 are to be seamlessly integrated into the sequel, allowing players to play in the same matches with both games.
When will the game be released? There is currently no exact release date for Overwatch 2. It might still be released in 2022 despite a turbulent time at Blizzard, but a release in 2023 is also not unlikely. The announced release platforms should not change despite the spectacular Microsoft acquisition.
Redfall – For PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S
What kind of game is this? Redfall is the latest game from Arkane, the creators of Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop. This game is a first-person shooter in an open-world setting that you can play solo or in co-op.

How does the shooter play? Official gameplay has not yet been shown, but the trailer offers some insights:
In Redfall, you can play as one of 4 survivors. They can use special abilities like telekinesis, levitation, or invisibility. Also, crazy weapons like cryo lasers and stake harpoons are at their disposal. A shooting, sweet robo-friend gives them support.
When will the game be released? The game is expected to be released in summer 2022 on PC and Xbox consoles. The game will likely be buy-to-play but will be available through Game Pass at launch.
Splatoon 3 – For Nintendo Switch
What kind of game is this? Splatoon 3 is the latest installment in Nintendo’s wildly successful PvP shooter franchise. According to Nintendo, the second part has already sold over 13 million copies (via Nintendo). The third part will also be exclusively playable on the Nintendo Switch.

How does the shooter play? The special feature of Splatoon is the color mechanic: with your weapons you not only defeat opponents but also paint the environment in vibrant colors. Through your own team color, you can move quickly – but the opponents cannot. This leads to unique gameplay with a dynamic battle for map control.
Thanks to the colorful graphics and a single-player campaign, Splatoon 3 appeals to a wide audience, but shooter fans can expect particularly in 4v4 multiplayer a real treat: fast movement, short TTK, no aim assist thanks to motion controls, ranked modes, many weapons – this colorful game is a real hardcore shooter for fans.
When will the game be released? There is still no exact date for Splatoon 3. However, it is set to be released exclusively as a buy-to-play title on Switch in 2022.
The Cycle: Frontier – For PC
What kind of game is this? The Cycle is a so-called PvPvE shooter from the German developer Yager. Towards the end of 2021, the game received a lot of attention and then ended its beta. In 2022, it is set to fully release under the name The Cycle: Frontier.
Here’s what it looks like in motion:
How does the shooter play? The Cycle is a free-to-play shooter that, in terms of gameplay, resembles a mix of survival game and Hunt: Showdown. You not only fight against other players, but also against AI opponents. The developers refer to this as a PvPvE game. Unlike the direct competition, The Cycle is set in a sci-fi environment on a foreign and dangerous planet. Not only aliens are a danger here – the weather can also be deadly.
As in Hunt or Escape from Tarkov, the focus is on collecting resources and loot, which you lose entirely when you die. There is also a social hub with different factions that feed you with missions. With them, you unlock new weapons and upgrades.
When will the game be released? The F2P game is set to be released in spring 2022 on PC – probably in May.
