The role-playing game “Skyrim” (2011) is considered one of the best video games of the last 15 years by many. While there is an official MMORPG with “The Elder Scrolls Online“, a mod caught attention in July 2022 that transforms Skyrim into a multiplayer game for 2 to 8 people. The developers have even tested it with 30 players. For many, a dream comes true: playing Skyrim in coop mode.
This is the idea of the project:
- Skyrim Together Reborn is a mod by the “The Together Team”. Their stated goal is to bring the multiplayer experience to Skyrim and Fallout 4, “the one we all dreamed of.”
- The team mainly consists of students who want to develop a coop experience for Bethesda’s cult RPGs. They say: They are not developing an MMO but have tested the version of Skyrim with more than 30 people.
- The new version of Skyrim Together was released on July 8th and the mod has since gained about 59,000 downloads – making it very popular.
Team supports version 1.6 of Skyrim on Steam
What do you need to play the mod? You need the Skyrim Special Edition 1.6 on Steam – the team says: You do not need the Anniversary Update, they even recommend playing without the Anniversary Update.
They do not support Virtual Reality, consoles, or other editions.

Skyrim with shared quest progress is a dream for many fans
What are the reactions? The reactions make it clear that it is a mod that many people wished for, as you can now “play through Skyrim together”, in coop mode with shared resources and quest progress.
Skyrim has many players who “live” it and apparently want to share the experience with their friends.
One user says: “I never thought it would happen – but now it is. Thank you, guys. Great job.”
At the moment, however, the positive reactions are overshadowed by technical inquiries, such as:
- Which other mods still support the multiplayer mod?
- How exactly do you play with other people?
- How do you bypass certain issues?
This is what it’s all about: Anyone who gets involved with mods must have a bit of a knack for tinkering and experimenting and bring a lot of time to get everything up and running, but once they do, they can fulfill their wishes to adapt the game to their needs.
“Playing Skyrim together” seems to be something many have been waiting for. However, those who have no experience with mods might want to give the developers a few more weeks until they possibly fix some of the technical problems that first players are encountering.
