“Re:Verse” is a multiplayer shooter set in the Resident Evil universe that is coming soon. There is now a small beta scheduled at short notice. Here, players can judge the game for themselves – so far, Re:Verse has caused confusion.
When does the beta run? As announced on the official Twitter account for the game, players who decide last minute can dive into the multiplayer battles tomorrow, on April 21, 2021, starting at 08:00 AM. However, the beta only lasts 24 hours – on April 22, it’s already over. This is already the third beta. Those who missed the previous phases can catch up now.
Who can participate in the beta? In principle, anyone who has a Capcom ID and owns one of the supported platforms can register for the beta. There is a wide selection: Re:Verse will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Steam, and can be downloaded from the respective stores. You can also play the game on next-gen consoles, but they will play the older versions.
With the beta, players get the opportunity to preview a version of the game and form their own opinion. The original announcement for the game was not particularly well received.
Fans criticize Re:Verse even before release
What kind of game is this? In Re:Verse, the well-known horror gameplay of the series is not in focus; instead, it is a multiplayer action shooter where you have to shoot each other in team battles.
Four to six people participate in the deathmatches, which are supposed to last about five minutes, where you take on the roles of classic Resident Evil characters. Among others, Claire and Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Ada Wong are included. Outfits inspired by the heroes were also found this year by the way, in The Division 2.
A twist: When you die, you transform into one of the series’ villains, like Nemesis, and can now take revenge on the opponents.
The online game will be released simultaneously with the upcoming Resident Evil: Village and is supposed to be free for buyers of the main game. Here you can see the trailer for the game:
This is how fans reacted: The original trailer had quite some problems in appealing positively to the fans of the series. At the time of writing this article, there were 9,358 likes against a noticeably larger number of 12,500 dislikes.
The trailer didn’t really go over well with its arena approach and comic-like look. There was also a prevailing sense of rejection and confusion in the comments of the video as well as in the Resident Evil subreddit (via reddit):
- “Capcom, if you insist on making multiplayer games, just make them in coop mode, I beg you…”, commented one user (via YouTube)
- “Why do they keep trying RE multiplayer games? They are never good. Just stop” (via reddit).
The discussion about the previous beta phases is also rather critical (via reddit). Additionally, the beta struggled with significant server issues at times and was temporarily unreachable, or no matches were available.
