The new Monster Hunter was initially set to be released only for the Nintendo Switch, but now a version for PC has also been announced. This is likely related to the success of World on Steam.
What is the new Monster Hunter game? On September 17, 2020, Capcom announced the game Monster Hunter Rise for the Nintendo Switch. It aims to build on the great success of its predecessor Monster Hunter World and brings many of its features.
You will hunt monsters as usual, crafting armor and weapons to hunt even larger monsters. This path leads you through large, rather linear areas, where you can find resources such as plants or insects alongside the monsters.
The only downside so far was that the game is scheduled to be released only for the Switch on March 26. However, it has now also been announced for PC.
PC fans can breathe a sigh of relief
What do the developers say about the PC version? After holding on to the idea of bringing Monster Hunter Rise only to the Switch for a long time, the developers at Capcom have commented on a PC version. Specifically, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto in an interview with GamesRadar (via GamesRadar).
According to him, a PC version will be released about a year after the release of the Switch title. PC players will have to wait until Spring 2022. How Rise will be implemented, and whether there will be any visual adjustments compared to the Switch version remains to be seen.
The developers cite the feedback from fans as the reason for the PC version. Some fans were somewhat disappointed that the title was announced only for the Switch:
The “Switch Only” thing is annoying, Monster Hunter World revived the fanbase, so it’s a mistake to bring this game only for the Switch, but it will sell millions because millions own a Switch, so it unfortunately won’t look like a mistake.

How does MHW perform on Steam? However, besides the fans’ input, the success on Steam likely played a role in the decision to go for a PC version. Currently, Monster Hunter World is ranked 25th there (via Steam) and is still played a lot.
Even though it does not belong to the Top 10 MMOs currently on Steam, it was one of the highest-grossing games on Steam in 2020. It made it into the top 12 and competes in a league with giants like Destiny 2 or Dota 2 (via GameInformer). The developers surely wish for similar success for Monster Hunter Rise.
Rise as the new World?
While Monster Hunter Rise aims to build on the success of World, it will not be a copy of Monster Hunter World. The game brings some innovations as well.
What’s new in Monster Hunter Rise? If you liked the somewhat clumsily implemented feature of riding smaller monsters in Monster Hunter World, you will be pleased. With the new dog companions, the Palamutes, you can now navigate the map properly on mounts.
Additionally, the new dogs do decent damage, while the cat-like Palicos remain with you. You can freely choose whether you want two dogs, two cats, or a mixed combo.
The new wirebugs also provide more speed and variety. You can use them to move through the air and along cliffs, similar to a grappling hook.
