In Fortnite, developer Epic has now introduced the new mode “Getaway”, which comes this week with the event “High Stakes”. First gameplay of the new weapon “The Grappler” can also be seen.
For several days now, it has been known that Fortnite is planning a new event called “High Stakes”. The rewards have been known since Sunday. Now Epic showcased gameplay for the first time at PAX West.
How does Getaway work? In the new limited-time mode “Getaway”, four safes are dropped as supply drops somewhere on the island. Each of the safes contains a large jewel. It is a squad mode for 4 players.
The player and their team must locate a safe, retrieve the treasure, and escape with it while others attempt to eliminate them and steal the treasure.
The first 4 teams to reach their getaway vehicle and escape with the jewel win.
What is the catch? As seen in the video, it takes quite a while to open the safe. The team must then work together to protect the jewel carrier, similar to “Protect the President.”
Extra challenges are coming: With the event “High Stakes”, there will also be unique challenges in Fortnite. We do not have any details yet.
New Weapon “The Grappler”
What can the new item do? It is, as announced, a movement item. It is an epic weapon that grants heroes abilities like those known from Batman or Spiderman. They can attach a kind of “plunger” to a building and then move towards it.
It looks pretty fast-paced.
When is High Stakes coming?
When does it go live? The event is expected to go live as part of the next patch 5.4.0. When that will be is not yet exactly known. However, it should be this week – possibly even as soon as Tuesday.
