Crimson Desert – The PvE MMORPG with a Focus on Story
This is Crimson Desert: Crimson Desert is an MMORPG by Pearl Abyss, the developers of Black Desert. It is intended to be the unofficial successor to the successful game, even though the storyline will be different.
Crimson Desert is developed in Korea but primarily targets the western market. The focus is on PvE content and storytelling.
The player is part of a mercenary band and experiences the story in special campaigns from the perspectives of different characters. Visually, the game heavily resembles Game of Thrones.
How has development gone so far? The new MMORPG was officially announced in 2019 at G-Star. A trailer was shown there, along with the first details.
Previously, the game was already known under a project name, and isolated information had leaked. It was already mentioned in the summer of 2019 that Pearl Abyss was working on a new, large MMORPG.
Financially, the company is also doing very well. In 2019, it became known that Pearl Abyss is building a new office building in the heart of Seoul. Additionally, the studio has acquired the company behind EVE Online.
Here is where Crimson Desert stands in March 2020: In March, rumors surfaced that there might be issues with the development of the new titles by Pearl Abyss. There were talks of mass layoffs.
However, we spoke with the Korean company, and they confirmed that there were no noticeable layoffs. On the contrary, they are even looking for new employees.
A beta is officially planned for 2020. However, whether this applies only to Korea or also to us in the West is currently unconfirmed.
