The MMORPG Corepunk launches its first Closed Beta in August, without an NDA. The game uses an isometric perspective, reminiscent of the successful MOBA LoL. It focuses on PvP and dungeons that are said to be similar to WoW Classic.
What kind of game is this? Corepunk is a “top-down MMORPG” with an open world. Visually and in gameplay, it resembles League of Legends. You control your character with the mouse instead of WASD and must also fire skill shots using the mouse.
At the same time, Corepunk is a classic MMORPG that, according to the developers, is supposed to remind players of the difficulty of WoW Classic. In the game, you can expect:
- Dungeons and raids that are said to be comparable to Mythic+ (the highest difficulty level in WoW)
- Mounts that can only be obtained starting at a certain level
- Many PvE activities in the open world
- Arena PvP and battles in the open world
- 4 gathering and 4 crafting professions, with crafting playing an important role. The best crafters must be known on a server, just like in old-school MMOs
Corepunk is launching the Beta soon
What is known about the Beta? Corepunk originally announced its beta for 2020. However, it was postponed to an unspecified date in 2021.
However, the developers have uploaded a short news video. It states that the beta will start on August 25, 2021:
What is known about the Beta? In the video, the developers shared some information about the beta:
- 10,000 players will be able to participate
- There will be dedicated servers for Europe, North America, Russia, and Brazil
- There will be no NDA
During the beta, all mechanics of the MMORPG are expected to be functional. For the time after the beta, only minor improvements and primarily more content such as new areas, dungeons, and skills are planned.
AAA MMORPGs require a lot of time and first impressions are important
What did the developers explain in the video? Even before the video, the developers emphasized repeatedly that their game is intended to be a AAA MMORPG, and therefore the effort is huge. Therefore, fans will need to be quite patient:
- The studio, like all others, is struggling with the Corona pandemic
- They want to avoid crunch at all costs, which is why there have been delays
- The first impression of an MMORPG is important. Therefore, the developers put a lot of value on a good beta launch
- Overall, MMORPGs are among the most complex things to develop in gaming
Were there also any details about the release? Yes, the developers’ goal is still to release Corepunk in 2021, despite the delays.
