Kingdom Come: Deliverance has convinced many RPG fans that you don’t need magic and monsters to create an exciting medieval world. The Flower of Knighthood is a new indie MMORPG from Russia that focuses on realism and does without magic and monsters.
Many players of the single-player RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance would love to explore the beautiful game world together with friends. However, that is not possible. They ask why no MMORPG is being made with the core values of Kingdom Come.
The Flower of Knighthood could fulfill players’ wishes. The fresh MMORPG project from Russia focuses on realism in all aspects.

An Authentic Medieval MMORPG
What is The Flower of Knighthood? With The Flower of Knighthood, the indie developer team Eaglance aims to create an MMORPG that offers as authentic a medieval experience as possible. There are no monsters and no magic, no teleportation. The game focuses on realism, both in terms of the game world and gameplay systems.
What does the MMORPG offer? The Flower of Knighthood aims to consciously differentiate itself from other MMORPGs, even in core elements:
- Fights without randomness and without hitpoints – You determine exactly which strike you perform and how you block. Combos are important. This is meant to make the fights as realistic as in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Additionally, there are no hitpoints. Armor and the weapon determine the damage. Instead of hitpoints, there are wounds. For example, you can hit limbs, which can no longer be used.
- Authentic game world – The developers are reconstructing buildings as authentically as possible to convey the feeling of being in 15th-century European medieval times.
- Skills through practice – You improve your skills in the game by using them. It is also possible to unlearn skills, so you should continually train them.
- Massive battles – Assemble an army of 1,000 players to fight against armies of other players. You need to be tactical, for example, by letting archers attack from a distance while cavalry strikes at the right moment.
- A realistic crafting system – The team is developing, together with Dr. Stephen Mileson from the Oxford University, a crafting system where you follow the exact steps required in the 15th century to create weapons, armor, and other items.
- “Photorealistic” graphics – The developers put great emphasis on graphics, utilizing Unreal Engine 4 and innovative photogrammetry technology, where real objects like stones are scanned with a 3D scanner and incorporated into the game.
Can this work? Kingdom Come: Deliverance shows that dragons or magic are not needed to develop an enjoyable RPG. However, the similarly themed and not-so-successful MMORPG Black Death has shown that a medieval MMO with a realistic approach may not necessarily be well received.
For the developers, The Flower of Knighthood represents a balancing act. Too much realism can harm the fun of the game. In the end, it only matters whether the MMO is fun to play.
At the moment, it is not yet clear when the MMORPG The Flower of Knighthood will be released. The release is planned for PC. The team is based in St. Petersburg, Russia.
