Untamed Isles is a new MMORPG on Kickstarter, heavily inspired by Pokémon. In the game world, you can catch monsters and fight with them. These battles take place in public and are visible to everyone. Additionally, you should be able to create your own monsters like Frankenstein.
What kind of game is this? Untamed Isles is set to be a new MMORPG with a completely open world. Many aspects clearly remind one of Pokémon, with some things being ‘further developed’:
- Basically, monsters can be caught or bred.
- Each monster consists of 7 body parts, which can be combined to create ‘endless combinations.’
- Fights take place turn-based like in Pokémon, but in the open world for everyone to see.
- There will be a group and a guild system.
- There will be dungeons, raids, fishing, auction houses, and player housing.
- Endgame will revolve a lot around competitive PvP, including 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 arenas and seasons.
- There will also be an integration into a blockchain system to earn cryptocurrency. However, this is supposed to be optional.
Currently, Untamed Isles is in a Kickstarter campaign aiming to raise 119,000 euros. There are also additional goals if more money is raised. Additionally, there is a book available for purchase that tells the backstory of the MMORPG.
When is the MMORPG expected to be released? There is no specific release date for Untamed Isles yet. However, a playable version is expected to be available by the end of 2021.

Fights can be observed in the open world
How do fights work? When entering a fight in the open world, an arena is automatically summoned where the opponents face off. In the center of the arena, the two monsters then battle each other.
Players who happen to walk by the battle scene can stop and watch.
There is even an integrated voice chat that allows players to talk to the fighters and cheer them on.
Each player can have up to 6 monsters on their team. Similar to Pokémon, there are different types (‘Moods’) that affect damage and resistances, as well as status effects like sleeping or poisoning. Overall, the combat system is supposed to offer a lot of tactics and depth.
How does the PvP work? On Kickstarter, the developers promise a ladder based on an Elo system. The strongest players should be able to qualify for seasonal tournaments.
These tournaments are supposed to offer ‘real-world’ rewards. However, how exactly these will look is still unknown.

How do monsters work in Untamed Isles? Aside from battles in the open world, assembling monsters is probably the most interesting aspect of the MMORPG. Each monster consists of 7 body parts:
- ‘The Core’
- Head
- 2x Torso
- Front Legs
- Back Legs
- Tail
Even the monsters in the open world should offer different combinations, so you won’t catch a clearly named ‘Pikachu,’ but rather mixed creatures from the start.
Each body part has different attributes (Species), different moods (Moods, depending on the catching environment, the weather, etc.) and a different appearance. The body parts also play a role in the breeding system, through which you can get the strongest monsters.
Cryptocurrency and lack of information about the developers warrant caution
What is the deal with the cryptocurrency? The developers of Untamed Isles are working with DireWolf to utilize blockchain technology.
Most monsters and items can be turned into a token and then sold on the marketplace. The tokens can either continue to be used in-game or exchanged for Direwolf tokens, the cryptocurrency.
However, the system is supposed to remain completely optional.
Can you trust the game? Generally, you should always be cautious with Kickstarter projects, especially when there is not yet a playable version available. There is always a possibility that you invest your money and in the end receive no product or a poor one.
The developer Phat Loot Studios has not released any game so far and contains very little information about the staff behind the project. For example, there is no information about what games the developers have worked on before, if any.
Only the CEO of the project, Joshua Grant, has a more well-known name. He is the Chief Executive Officer behind projects like ChannelFireball, a well-known website about Magic: The Gathering.
