With Untamed Isles, a new MMORPG will be released on Steam in 2022, inspired by Pokémon. The special feature here, however, is that you can exchange different body parts in breeding and thus create countless monsters. The developers themselves promise 1.5 million different creatures.
What kind of game is this? Untamed Isles will be a new MMORPG and focuses on an open world that you can explore freely. Many aspects are clearly reminiscent of Pokémon, while some things have been “developed further”:
- You can catch monsters, hatch them, and then modify them as you like. Each monster consists of seven different body parts. Each monster also has one of 15 “moods” which also influences their strengths and weaknesses.
- Through these different options, there should be over 1.5 million different creatures that you can create. For comparison: Pokémon currently offers 898 monsters, Temtem just over 100.
- Fights take place turn-based like in Pokémon, but are visible to everyone in the open world.
- There will be dungeons, raids, fishing, auction houses, and player housing.
- Groups and guilds are expected to be important.
- In the endgame, much revolves around competitive PvP. There will be 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 arenas and seasons.
- The open world will have a weather and time system that is supposed to influence the catchable creatures.
There will also be an integration into a blockchain system to earn cryptocurrency. However, this is only meant to be optional. The developers also want to publish a book to explain the background story of the game.

How do monsters work in Untamed Isles? Besides battles in the open world, assembling creatures is probably the most interesting aspect of this MMORPG. Each monster consists of 7 body parts:
- “The Core”
- Head
- 2x Torso
- Front Legs
- Hind Legs
- Tail
The monsters in the open world are also supposed to offer different combinations, so you may not necessarily catch a clearly named “Pikachu” but also mixed creatures. In total, there are 10 different monsters and additional Legendary Tames.
Each body part has different attributes (Species), different moods (Moods), and a different appearance. Additionally, you can use various skills for your monster. However, these depend on which monster parts you have installed and how many of them.

How has the development been so far? In August 2021, the developers started a Kickstarter campaign, which raised nearly 511,000 euros. Since November 2021, the developers have been writing a post every month reporting on new developments and their progress.
In March 2022, the first beta tests were conducted with selected users. There, the world could be explored on a small scale and battles could be fought against each other. It was also reported that 15,000 combinations for the monsters had already been possible.
In May, the first options for character creation, NPCs, and an extension of the weather system were presented. The last update in June included new, rare Tames and improvements to the combat system.
When is Untamed Isles coming out? The new Pokémon MMORPG is supposed to start Early Access on Steam in late 2022. There is no exact date for this yet.
It is currently unclear what funding model the game is aiming for. This may depend on the crypto system.
Most monsters and items can be turned into a token and then sold on the marketplace. The tokens can either be used in-game or exchanged for Direwolf tokens, the cryptocurrency.
