Pax Dei describes itself as “Social Sandbox”. You should be able to do whatever you like – starting right at level 1. Now the developers revealed that you will be able to get your hands on the MMORPG this year.
What kind of game is this? Pax Dei was first presented to the public in March 2023. It is a sandbox MMORPG being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and impresses with its strong details. For example, you can zoom in on any plant or piece of armor to discover hidden hints, lore bits, or inscriptions.
The second major feature of the game is the freedom in building. You can simply claim an area in the open world and build your house or even a whole city with friends – including crafting workbenches or storage space, of course.
- Pax Dei does away with fixed classes. You can define your play style based on your weapons and armor.
- The combat system roughly resembles New World. You can block, deal heavy blows, but you also need to dodge enemy attacks. All of this is noticeably slower and more tactical than, for example, in ESO.
- The economy system is supposed to be purely player-based. Mobs do not drop equipment; instead, there are only materials from which players can then craft the equipment.
- There will be PvP, but you will not be forced to participate.
- You should be able to experience everything at level 1 that will also happen at level 60 later. In general, the focus is on cooperation between players.
It is scheduled to appear on Steam for PC first, but it is later planned as a cloud MMORPG. This will allow you to play on consoles or smartphones in the future.
When will the MMORPG be released? There is no exact release date yet. However, the developers have now announced the first public test.
First tests likely in fall 2023, fans can hardly wait
What have the developers said? Pax Dei is currently in a Family & Friends alpha. The previous content has been tested and the server stability has been improved. This is necessary before the MMORPG is released to the public, as stated in the newsletter. Currently, the game world is 130-150 km² large, which is impressive.
The next step is a public alpha without NDA. This is expected to start later in 2023. Although there is no specific date, fall is being targeted, as was revealed in Discord.
However, there should be a clear listing of the testing plans for Pax Dei during the summer.
What makes the MMORPG so interesting? Pax Dei is seen by many as the new sandbox hope. They hope for a mix of EVE Online and Albion Online, but in third-person and a classic medieval world. This is not entirely unfounded, as the minds behind the game have previously worked on EVE Online for many years.
Many small details are praised, such as the fact that the chest and leg pieces have multiple “layers” of armor. You wear a chainmail or leather armor underneath the plate armor. This is not common in many other MMORPGs but is actually very realistic.
The building function, the zooming in on details, and the combat system are also well received.
What do you think about Pax Dei? Are you looking forward to the title and if so, why?
