The new MMORPG Reign of Guilds on Steam is entering open play tests. There is also a new trailer showcasing gameplay scenes. We have gathered all the information for you.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Reign of Guilds is an Old School open-world MMORPG that has been in development at Atlan Games for about 6 years. The game plays in a medieval fantasy world where the western and eastern countries are in constant conflict.
At the beginning, you create a character but do not choose a class. You can distribute your attribute points as you wish. Later in the game, you can choose from 14 different classes.
The core of the game is the guild system: It is your task to bring a guild together and specialize with it. Depending on your preferences, you can focus on trade, diplomacy, or combat.
Crafting is also important in the game, among other things because items become weaker over time. So you always have to stay on top of it and create new equipment.
The combat system is not based on tab-targeting. Instead, you aim with mouse and keyboard like in many role-playing games. According to Steam, the game offers player-versus-player battles, as well as player-versus-environment in dungeons and against world bosses. PvP and friendly fire are always on – starting from the first level.

The showcased gameplay is reminiscent of Skyrim, released in 2011. The soundtrack and the snow-free landscapes could be inspired by the region of Velen from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Additionally, there is a death notification similar to those found in Dark Souls.
How do you participate in the gameplay test? The gameplay test of Reign of Guilds runs from December 21 to January 8, 2024. To participate, you must request access on the Steam page of the game.
It should be noted that the game is currently pay-to-play. With the final release, it is expected to switch to a subscription model. Those who purchased the game beforehand will receive the price credited towards the subscription fees. Therefore, participation in the upcoming gameplay test is not free.
Nothing is currently known about the extent of the gameplay test. However, since limitations were specifically indicated during previous tests, this could be a test of all game content.
When will Reign of Guilds be released? The release of the game is currently announced for the first quarter of 2024. In the middle of the year, the developer already held a gameplay test and an early access was originally planned. The original release was scheduled for 2021.
Whether Reign of Guilds will be released on time is currently uncertain. However, increased gameplay tests are a generally good sign: work is being done on the game and the developers seek feedback from their community.
