The new MMORPG Polity (PC) not only lets you colonize a new planet and become the president of an entire country, but it also works completely without combat. We from MeinMMO will tell you what the mix of Stardew Valley and Sims looks like here.
What kind of game is this? Polity takes a path that is rather atypical in the MMORPG genre. In this game, there is not a single battle. Instead, you colonize the new planet BD-2, which looks shockingly similar to Earth.
However, you don’t need to free it from nasty aliens, but simply manage it. You will grow crops and vegetables and cut down a few trees to make yourself comfortable in your new home.
Gradually, you can build your own settlement and pursue a job of your choice, similar to the spiritual predecessors Sims. These jobs then consist of various mini-games.
What does the endgame look like? Later, you can run for president and then have to convince some residents of the country with your speech. If you are elected, you will rule your own country from then on.
Other players can then live in your country or aim to rule their own country. You act as president, which can be seen as a kind of guild leader if the residents of the country are your guild.
Subsequently, you can continuously expand and develop your country and your settlement, thus creating exactly what makes you happy. Because Polity wants to be a game where you feel comfortable.
When can you play? The game is currently in a closed beta phase but is already available on Steam, so you can add it to your wishlist. Early Access is expected to start in June 2022.
The final release of the title is also planned for 2022. Steam still lists the title as free, but there is currently no further information on the final price or the final business model.
However, if you want to participate now, you can directly register on the Polity website for the closed beta, which has no end date yet and has been running since August (via polityonline.com).
The community is excited
What do the first testers say? The first people who have been able to play Polity are excited about the idea of the game and give positive feedback. Generally, the community around Polity is still very small, but that can change at any time.
As it is a closed beta phase, the game currently lacks some polish in certain areas. Some animations are missing, and in terms of content, Polity is still not finished. Nevertheless, the beta seems to make a solid impression in the eyes of the testers.
What does the community say? Some of the testers have already been able to share their experiences in the form of videos on YouTube. The largest of them is YouTuber KiraTV, who reached over 10,000 people with his video about Polity. The comments below are overwhelmingly positive (via YouTube):
- Indie Patron, who has also been able to test the game, writes: “We really need more of these social games,”
- User Nate C W writes: “This looks fun. It seems like a good way to just unwind for a few hours. I believe that Polity can appeal to many target groups and also bring casual and non-gamers together in a virtual world.”
- User Skaatje is already convinced and writes: “Oh man, I can already see myself getting addicted to this”
What do you think of Polity’s approach? Do you like a game where you can’t fight at all? Would you also like more social MMORPGs, or does the concept not appeal to you? Please feel free to let us know in the comments here at MeinMMO.
If you’re not really into social MMO experiences, a new Free2Play MMORPG on Steam is said to be perfect for solo players.
