Perfect New World is a new MMORPG that will start its beta on Steam in May. It has significantly higher system requirements than WoW, Black Desert, or New World. The developers have now released nearly 9 minutes of gameplay, showcasing what the game is all about.
What kind of game is it? The new MMORPG will be the successor to Perfect World, which was released in 2005 and was an alternative to WoW for many due to its Free2Play model. It features a Chinese game world, Unreal Engine 4, and action-packed battles.
A new video has revealed details about the game, especially the upcoming beta test in May:
- During character creation, you will have the option to choose from 3 classes, each tied to 3 different races. However, more classes are expected to follow before the release.
- The game world is said to be completely open. For the test, there will be four different zones, each with a different theme. One zone is expected to be filled with puzzles, another will focus on group content like boss fights, and Dracopolis will likely be the capital featuring a mix of Chinese and steampunk elements like airships.
- There will be random events in the game world that can occur and in which you can participate.
- You will be able to glide with wings in the open world.
- Perfect New World will feature an action combat system without the ability to “lock on” to a target. So you will always need to aim actively with your abilities. There are also combos that modify your attacks, such as when you launch enemies into the air.
It is currently unclear how the PvP will work. While an arena is shown, whether there will also be battles in the open world has neither been confirmed nor denied.

The combat system is well-received, but the performance is not
What stands out in the trailer? The world of Perfect New World strongly resembles the visuals of games like Swords of Legends Online or Revelation Online, two Chinese MMORPGs that only found moderate success in the West. Only the large jumping puzzles in Mechanopolis and the steampunk elements in the capital stand out somewhat.
There is praise on reddit and under the YouTube video, especially for the combat system. It looks very action-packed and dynamic.
Each character also has at least 10 normal abilities, two spirit abilities, and four slots for consumables like potions or buff food. Through combos and chain attacks, the abilities can change slightly – for example, when hitting enemies in the air – which increases the total number significantly.
This puts it well ahead of current titles like New World and Bless Unleashed or the upcoming games Throne and Liberty and Blue Protocol, which will only offer 7 abilities.
There is significant criticism regarding the performance. Although the player is mostly alone in the video, there are strong FPS drops in some scenes. The high level of detail in the graphics and the fact that the MMORPG is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 and not the newer 5 has led to mockery.
It particularly stands out that Perfect New World has extremely high system requirements. According to Steam, the minimum requirements are:
- Operating System: Windows 10
- Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7-5700X
- Memory: 32 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700
- DirectX: Version 11
- Storage: 70 GB
By comparison: WoW relies on a 4th generation processor and on NVIDIA GTX 900 series graphics, GW2 only requires an Intel i3 2.8 GHz and a NVIDIA GTS 250 as a minimum requirement.
Even modern titles like New World (Intel Core i5-2400 and NVIDIA GTX 670) or Throne and Liberty (Intel Core i5-6500 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060) are significantly below that.
Perfect New World is expected to be released on PC, Xbox, and PS5. The publisher Perfect World is also working on 3 more MMORPGs, including a mobile version of Perfect New World, which will be standalone, similar to Black Desert Mobile.
