With Eden: New Dawn, a new MMORPG was released on Steam on September 28. It focused on sandbox content like collecting, crafting, and building custom shelters. However, now, in mid-December 2021, the developers announced that the servers will be shut down.
What kind of game was it? Eden: New Dawn relied on the sandbox aspect and visually resembled Minecraft strongly. The game world consisted of various blocks that could be mined and used for building houses.
The MMORPG did not use classes but rather utilized different weapons and corresponding abilities. The trailer showcased sword + shield and a kind of magical glove. In addition, the game featured various enemy types and crazy modes of transportation like rockets, which do not exist in classic Minecraft.
The MMORPG was developed for at least since 2019 in a custom engine. In summer 2020, the development switched to Unreal Engine 4.
The game world is also based on the mobile game: Eden World Builder, which resembles Minecraft even more but does not offer multiplayer.
What happened to Eden: New Dawn? On September 28 – the same day as New World – the MMORPG celebrated its release on Steam. Those who wanted to play had to pay upfront, as it used a Buy2Play model.
However, there was not a major hype. Just under three months later, the developers announced the closure.

How successful was Eden: New Dawn? On Steam, the new MMORPG reached 6 concurrent players at peak (via SteamDB). This occurred on the release day itself.
Since the release, there have been days where there was not a single person online.
On Steam, the game received a total of 4 reviews, 3 of which advised against purchasing. The only positive review came from a person who recommended waiting for larger updates and a fix for the server issues after 2 hours of gameplay, as there were currently too many problems and not much to do (via Steam).
What do the developers say about the closure? In an official statement, the developers explained that financial issues were the reason for the shutdown:
Due to financial difficulties, we are unable to continue the development of Eden: New Dawn. Additionally, we cannot afford to keep the servers running. We sincerely apologize for being unable to realize the potential of this game, but due to a lack of demand and circumstances beyond our control, we cannot do anything.

However, since the vast majority of players have not heard of this MMORPG at all and almost none have played it, the shutdown of the servers will not have major consequences.
