Mist Legacy is a new MMORPG that started Early Access on Steam in late 2021. It focuses on turn-based combat and solo players, foregoing a classic open world. In September, it is set to celebrate its full release.
What kind of game is this? Mist Legacy is a Free2Play MMORPG played from a top-down perspective and was released in Early Access on Steam in October 2021. You can expect turn-based battles, where you always fight with three characters at a time. These can either be real players or, like in Guild Wars 1, NPCs.
However, Mist Legacy is an “Old School” game. Modern elements like jumping, dodging, climbing, or similar are nowhere to be found.
The game world is also special, as you do not navigate through an open world; instead, you have a map in front of you, where you select points you want to reach. These can be quest locations, enemies, or other important places.
Otherwise, the game offers:
- A character editor with various settings
- A story that guides you through the MMORPG
- It does not have classes and instead lets you choose from various weapons and abilities
- Areas with effects, so you receive other bonuses when you are in cities, forests, or in different weather conditions
- Various PvE content such as dungeons and bosses
- A housing system

Mist Legacy is soon celebrating a full release – Continues to have active players on Steam
What has been announced now? Mist Legacy has been in Early Access for about 8 months. During this time, more than 30 content updates have been released. Now, the game is slowly set to celebrate its official release. The four developers, who are completing the game on their own, have set the date for September 13, 2022.
Until the release, there will be no “Breaking Changes” anymore. Instead, the developers plan bug fixes, balance adjustments, server modifications, and general polishing. Additionally, a new event is planned for summer.
How is Mist Legacy received? According to the developers, the game should have had about 46,000 testers. They expect new players when the marketing push for the release arrives.
According to SteamDB, there are currently about 150 players online at peak times. The player numbers are very stable at the moment. Since March, the game has reached between 130 and 210 players daily at peak times.
The highest peak of concurrent players occurred two days after the release – with 1,065 concurrent players.
So far, Mist Legacy has received 827 reviews on Steam. They are 73% positive:
- Praise is given for the easy start, the increasing complexity, the story, and the fact that you can experience almost everything solo. Some also praise the slowness and calmness that the MMORPG radiates.
- Criticism is given for the long grind, the fact that items are supposed to break quickly in combat, and timers that prevent you from completing everything immediately.
- Players also have mixed feelings about the shop. Because you need premium currency to trade with other players, to increase your inventory, or to buy the fourth and fifth group slots. These are essential in the endgame since you can’t defeat the toughest enemies with 3-player groups.
