Amazon Games Studios introduced the first housing content for their own MMORPG New World. In a quirky video, we follow a young couple and their realtor in search of the perfect house. What this looks like and what you can do with it, we show you here from MeinMMO.
What is there to see? In a video reminiscent of a reality show, Amazon shows us the housing content for New World. It is not going to be just one video, but under the title New World: Settling Down there will be a whole series of videos that will introduce different aspects of housing. From the first video, we gather the following information:
- You will be able to buy houses in various cities and areas of the world
- The houses will be purchased empty. Decorations and furniture can be crafted or bought from other players
- There will be a tax system that includes the settlements
- You can find animals on your adventures that you can let move in with you
- Your house can serve as a teleport point for you, thus providing a tactical advantage
What is there to see? In the new video New World: Settling Down, we accompany an in-game family as they search for their perfect house. They are supported by a realtor who shows them three houses in different regions.
There is a stylish house in the city of Everfall, a more modest hut in the swamp of Weaver’s Fen, and an impressive treehouse in the forests of Reekwater. We are also shown some locations in the respective areas, including the market of Weaver’s Den and the tavern of Reekwater.
The realtor tries to sell the rather negative aspects of the locations positively. For example, he tells the couple that “the dryads only really attack very rarely, and only when you get too close” or comments on the swamp’s smell with “that’s the sweet smell of decay!”.
The fictional husband James is an accomplished fisherman, so we also get to see some fishing spots around the respective locations. Meanwhile, his wife Elena is a mercenary, always on the lookout for the next adventure. We also get to see some of the monsters.

New World focuses on quirky marketing campaigns
What makes New World so different? Although New World excels with a dark atmosphere and has so far focused more on serious dark fantasy, the video introducing the content is rather quirky. This is not the first time New World has resorted to such means. They already presented their armor sets in a video in a fashion show style. (via YouTube)
This stylistic break is interesting, considering that New World has revised its entire game concept since its announcement as a PvP-focused game. It is therefore not unusual for New World fans to see something that does not match their own concept of the game.
Nevertheless, the humorous videos are very well received by the community and receive little negative criticism. It is to be expected that the upcoming episodes of New World: Settling Down will also be well received, and that we will see the next content updates presented in less serious scenarios as well.
Why does this work? When you laugh at something, it tends to stick in your mind more than plain information. There are already hundreds of announcement trailers from various games that mostly follow the same structure. Amazon brings a pleasant fresh breeze into the videos and scores with humor instead of list of contents.
This is not, however, a fundamentally new idea. When thinking of funny announcement videos, one would probably first think of Devolver Digital. The publisher is known not only for its games but also for its humorous E3 appearances that are always meant to be taken with a grain of salt.
New World is set to be released in 2021 and is constantly being revised after the postponement of the original release. An update recently brought 4 new features that many have eagerly awaited.
