The MMORPG New World is playable in the Closed Beta since tonight, July 20th. Over 180,000 players are already on the servers – and that on the PC platform Steam alone.
So many players New World currently has: Since 6:30 PM players can officially play the Closed Beta of New World. As of now, you would be one of already over 187,726 players on Steam (via Steam; as of 8:00 PM).
The rush on the servers is so great, that players are already stuck in queues. Additionally, Steam is not the only platform where the game can be played. Amazon also offers its own launcher.
With the current player numbers alone, New World is already in 3rd place of the most played games on Steam. At the moment only more people are playing:
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 603,787 players
- DOTA 2 – 497,648 players
- shortly after New World comes GTA V with 160,541 players
Will it get even more? Currently, the Closed Beta of New World is running. This can only be joined by invitation or pre-order, thus it is not open for all players to test. In our info hub, you can learn more about the Beta of New World.
Moreover, New World is relatively large at nearly 40 GB, some players may not have been able to download the MMORPG despite preload or are just now getting home in Europe.
In the last minutes before the check (8:00 PM), the numbers have generally increased. So it is quite possible that New World will climb even higher on Steam.
New food for the genre excites people
New World is currently the big western MMORPG hope, after Crowfall is struggling with a difficult start. The new game from Amazon has a long development behind it.
After the original focus on PvP, New World has increasingly become an open-world and PvE game with more dungeons and optional PvP. The numbers show that the decision was apparently the right one.
A nice bonus is, that New World can even be played on 5 year old PCs. Therefore, even gamers with an older PC and without the latest graphics cards can dive into the new world.
MeinMMO had the opportunity to take a look at New World before the beta. Our author Mark Sellner faced several challenges together with the developers and has already tried many of the endgame contents:
The endgame of New World was kept secret for a long time – We played it
