The MMORPG Tower of Fantasy (PC/Android/iOS) will launch its open beta in China on December 16. The game is reminiscent of hits like Genshin Impact or the upcoming Blue Protocol. When Tower of Fantasy will be released in our country and how you can participate, we explain here.
What is Tower of Fantasy? The MMORPG features an anime style in a sci-fi setting. It only resembles Genshin Impact at first glance, as there are fundamental gameplay differences compared to the stylistic template.
Because Tower of Fantasy is a complete MMORPG with an open world, PvP, guilds, trading, and group content. At its core, it is a completely different game compared to Genshin or Blue Protocol. Some features do get shared between the games:
- The way you explore the world and can climb anywhere
- Dungeons with multiple players
- Quests that tell a story
- NPCs and heroes with personality and backstory
You can see gameplay from the MMORPG in this video:
When will the game come to us? A specific date or even a time window is not yet known. According to a YouTube video by MMO-Byte, a global release in 2022 is likely but not confirmed.
The developers state that they have not yet started working on the globalization. It is uncertain when the game will come to the West. However, there seem to be plans for it.
What’s new? After several closed beta phases, Tower of Fantasy will launch its first open beta on December 16, where everyone can participate for the first time. Provided you live in China.
Because officially, you can only participate in the beta in China; however, you can also register for the beta without any issues here. Whether you can actually participate will be revealed on the 16th. We will update this article with the new information.
How to register for the beta
How do you play? According to the developers, the open beta will only take place in China. Nevertheless, you can register for the beta with minimal effort. Whether you can actually play or need VPN software will be determined later.
- To register for the beta, you need an account with the Chinese service Taptap. You can create this easiest in the app, as it is available in English.
- To do this, visit the Taptap website, scan the QR code there, and install the APK that is offered for download.
- In our tests, the app recognized your location and automatically switched to English; if this is not the case, you can change the language in the options.
- In the app, you can create an account via the crystal ball in the top right corner, which can be done either with your email or your phone number.
- Once that’s done, just go to the Taptap page for Tower of Fantasy and select whether you want to register as an Android or iOS user.
- If you have successfully completed everything, a message will appear on the selected platform stating that you are “Pre-Registered”.
To use Tower of Fantasy on PC, you also visit the website and click on Windows instead of scanning the QR code. Then download the Taptap client, which is a type of Android emulator that makes it possible to play the games on PC.
The community can hardly wait
What are the fans saying? The announcement of the open beta is also well received by the western fans of the game. The overall mood on reddit and YouTube is positive.
- User ANTREPEYOUS writes (via YouTube): “Honestly? My expectations are still low because it’s a new or relatively unknown studio. I am still really happy that they are not rushing the release, even though they know how eager everyone is. I am really hyped!”
- Sora Synn keeps it shorter and writes: “I am so hyped for the game!”
- On reddit, user Tyrillia writes: “I can’t wait for the global version, I am full of anticipation.”
What do you think of Tower of Fantasy? Are you excited about an MMORPG in anime style, or does the title rather put you off?
