Virtuverse is a new MMORPG set to be released in Q4 2021. There have already been some beta tests. It advertises many freedoms and the possibility to earn real money. We at MeinMMO reveal what lies behind it.
What kind of game is this? Virtuverse is intended to be a Free2Play science fiction MMORPG in which you explore an open world with various planets using firearms and equipment. It offers some interesting aspects that set it apart from other games:
- There are no classes. Instead, the equipment and selected skills determine your playstyle.
- The focus is on the economy. With the exception of starting items, all equipment must be crafted by players. Crafting plays a significant role.
- There is expected to be a linear story with updates every 3 months.
- There are supposed to be dungeons of varying difficulties.
- Players should be able to create their own content.
- You are supposed to be able to earn money with the game.
Especially the last two points are particularly notable, as Virtuverse differentiates itself from other sandbox MMORPGs with these features. We explain how this is supposed to work.
Everything in the game has value
How does earning money work? In Virtuverse, you are supposed to be able to trade every item, even ammunition for weapons. An in-game currency is used for this.
This currency can be completely exchanged for real money and vice versa. Additionally, players should be able to offer services, such as renting out land, from which they earn money from other players. Hence, trading is completely legal, unlike in RuneScape, where some Venezuelans are even dependent on gold farming.
With each currency exchange, the developers retain a small part to finance server costs and the ongoing development of the game. Additionally, there is an optional subscription that is supposed to provide in-game currency and additional bonuses.
How does self-created content work? The developers plan to hold regular competitions where players can participate and submit their creations for the game.
The winners of the competitions will receive their content in-game. Additionally, they will receive a small reward each time that item is crafted.
How is Virtuverse currently performing? There have already been some tests where the new MMORPG could be tried out. The graphics, in particular, were criticized for not being modern and pretty enough. Many expect something better from a game made with Unreal Engine 4.
The point about real money investment also receives mixed feedback. However, there have been games like Entropia Universe that have been based on a similar principle for years and are popular:
- Players there have even paid up to 500,000 dollars for shares in a space station .
- One player lost 10,000 dollars because they misclicked.
The real money trading is therefore an incentive for some players to play such an MMORPG.
How can you test the game? The last public test ended on October 26. A new one has not yet been announced. However, you can support the game via Patreon. For a monthly fee of 14.50 euros, you gain access to the game outside of the public tests.
Virtuverse currently appears to cater to a niche audience. But these 8 MMORPGs are among the most interesting and promising in development.
