World of Jade Dynasty is the successor to the 2007-released Asia MMORPG Jade Dynasty. The development team from Perfect World Games has now revealed that the title will be released with a subscription payment model. This approach takes inspiration from World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14.
What is World of Jade Dynasty?
- World of Jade Dynasty takes place in the same universe as Jade Dynasty and offers an open world. The predecessor was released in 2007 and was shut down in 2018.
- The MMORPG has impressed in early gameplay trailers mainly with its beautiful graphics. The first trailers were shown in 4K resolution and showcased various landscapes.
- The combat system is described as action-packed. Both the story and PvP are in focus.
- There will be 4 seasons and a dynamic day-night cycle.
So far, no release date for World of Jade Dynasty is known. The MMORPG is set to be released first in China, and nothing is known yet about a global release. On December 29, 2023, 10,000 players from China can participate in a test to get a first look at the game (via World of Jade Dynasty).

Development team discusses the monetization of the game
How is the game funded? The development of the MMORPG is said to have cost around 55 million euros and has taken about 9 years so far. For comparison: In Lost Ark, the development costs were estimated at around 83 million euros.
To recoup the costs, World of Jade Dynasty relies on a subscription model: Players must purchase a card every month to play the title. Additionally, there will be an item shop and a battle pass that is not pay-to-win, but will only include cosmetic items.
The development team chose the subscription model because it wants to build “a good gaming ecosystem” and maintain “a harmonious and long-term relationship with the players”. Therefore, players can also decide how much the subscription will cost.
How much is a monthly card? Perfect World did not provide any details on how much the subscription model will cost. Instead, players are allowed to use the associated assistant app to decide how high the price will be.
App users can participate in a survey via the app and name their preferred payment price from five options. However, the survey is only available in China. Players have until today to vote on the price.
