Teredor is a new free indie MMORPG that is initially only going to be released in German. It focuses on a wide variety of classes, professions, and dungeons. The first players are already allowed to test it in the Alpha.
What kind of game is this? Teredor aims to be an “Old School” MMORPG and is said to draw inspiration from WoW Wrath of the Lich King and Lord of the Rings Online.
One special feature is the monetization, as it will be Free2Play and at the same time forego a real-money shop. It is financed exclusively through optional donations. For example, you can buy an NPC or a quest line for the game world, which you can then actively help shape.
The game is played from a third-person perspective and graphically relies on a very colorful style with hand-drawn backgrounds. The finished version is supposed to offer the following content:
- During character creation, you have the choice of 10 different classes and 3 different playable races. The Holy Trinity of Tank, Healer, and DPS plays an important role.
- There are supposed to be 15 professions, from the classic blacksmith to a pet trainer.
- A major focus will be on dungeons. There should be small instances for 2-5 players and raids for up to 15 players.
- For PvP fans, there will be battlefields for up to 40 players and classic PvP arenas.
- Those who want to trade can access an auction house as well as individual player shops.
- There will be housing for players and for guilds.
When will the game be released? There is no official release date yet. However, since July 1st, the alpha of Teredor has been running. It is constantly being expanded with new players, and you can still apply for access.
Here you can check out gameplay from the pre-alpha and information about monetization:
Developers are happy about the large influx to the Alpha
How does it work with the Alpha? We already reported in May that Teredor is inviting to the alpha. Since then, over 150 people have applied, of which the first 50 have already been able to test the MMORPG.
But that’s not the end. Through the official website, you can still apply. The alpha is supposed to be gradually expanded. If you don’t want to wait at all, you can subscribe to Patreon and gain access to the PTR server. You can even test new features that Alpha users will see later.
Is there an NDA on the Alpha? No, you can stream, process the existing content into videos, or simply show it to your friends.
What’s included in the Alpha? The content of the first test is still heavily limited:
- There is the starting area for humans, and you can initially only play the warrior class.
- In the area, there is a main quest, mobs, loot, and collectible content.
- The first crafting elements (mining, blacksmith, herbalism, and alchemy) can be tried out.
- There is a global chat and a whisper chat, as well as a trading and a group function.
The content of the Alpha is supposed to be continuously expanded. In phase 2, new classes, a new area, and the first instances will be introduced. Phase 3 will bring a PvP zone, new quests, and character customization. You can read the complete process on the Teredor website.
“I would say our concept is working out”
How is it going for Teredor otherwise? We spoke this morning with the developer Snubba, who shared some details about the development of the MMORPG. He explained that they are already about 2 months ahead of schedule with the PTR:
- The starting area for humans has already been expanded from 500×500 to 3,000×1,000 meters.
- There are features like guilds, pets, a map with real-time recording, and some improvements to hunting.
- Four weapon types have already been implemented.
Additionally, the support is much greater than the developers themselves expected. Thanks to around 60 supporters on Patreon, external artists have been commissioned to create new armor and weapon designs and compose new music. Additionally, 118 contents have been donated – especially new quests.
Subba explains: “Of course, the revenues are not enough to cover the monthly costs, but we can already use the donations and Patreon well for more artists.”
The community is also praised. The Discord server already has over 250 members, many of whom are also very active. “The feedback on the alpha has been very positive so far. People stay mainly because of the nice community here. I would say our concept is working out.”
What do you think of Teredor? Does the concept appeal to you? Will you check the MMORPG out in the future, or are you more skeptical about indie titles?
