Most MMORPGs focus on spectacular battles against nasty monsters and powerful bosses, but Palia does it differently and focuses on pure relaxation!
What kind of game is this? The indie developer studio Singularity Six is creating a new MMORPG with Palia (PC, Switch), which takes games like Animal Crossing as a model. Even in the trailers, the game advertises that it wants to enable you to lead a ‘cozy life’.
Palia does not make you the great hero who saves the world in breathtaking battles. Instead, you are a valuable member of the neighborhood. You move into a house with your character and live door to door with other players and NPCs that offer rich backstories.
The gameplay of Palia is all about relaxation
What does the gameplay of Palia look like? The core elements of the game consist of activities that MMORPG players typically perform as side activities. These include tasks such as growing and harvesting various food items, forging tools, and maintaining and decorating your own house.
But activities like fishing, chopping wood, and cooking are also part of the gameplay. Additionally, the developers mentioned that smaller competitions such as a card game with friends or a race on the beach would fit into the game concept (via palia.com).
What do we know about the release? The release of Palia is planned for winter 2023. The MMORPG is set to be released for Nintendo Switch and PC, but whether it will also be available on Steam is currently unknown.
At the Nintendo Direct on June 21, 2023, a new trailer for the Switch release of Palia was also showcased:
Palia will be free-to-play and promises a fair monetization. The game will not include purchasable boosters or buffs as well as a rotation in the shop. Generally, only cosmetic content like clothing sets and outfits will be sold.
Is there PvP or PvE? Palia intends to completely avoid fights against other players (PvP). However, there will be some form of PvE in certain areas of the map. In the Switch trailer, for example, we see a player hunting wild animals with bow and arrow.
As Palia focuses on relaxed and stress-free gaming, you also have the option to avoid any fights and completely refrain from violence in Palia.
