The upcoming MMORPG Profane (PC) not only focuses on PvP and an open world, but also completely forgoes levels and classes. In this game, it only matters what skills you have. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What kind of game is Profane? Profane is an MMORPG that aims to put the maximum freedom of its players at the center. You can be whatever you want. The MMO does away with classes and even levels.
Profane claims to be a true sandbox. You can not only fight for territories against factions, but also expand small villages into large cities and defend them.
You are in an open world that remains dangerous due to the full-loot open-world PvP. But don’t worry, it’s not the end of the world if you lose everything. At least that’s what the developers from the small studio INSANE from Brazil insist.
The combat system of Profane relies entirely on the skills of the players and is a WASD-controlled action combat system. You must aim with all your abilities, and if you do poorly, you can not only heal and buff enemies, but even harm your friends.
The features of Profane at a glance: The core features that the new MMORPG brings are impressive.
- Open world with full-loot PvP
- From your own house to your own city, you can have it all
- A classless combat system without levels, where only your skill matters
- Factions with which you fight for the domination of various territories
- Focus on PvP, but also offers PvE content
- Elemental skills that you need to find and play an important role in builds
- Weather is also supposed to affect gameplay

You can lose everything, but it’s not the end of the world
How does progression work in Profane? Although the MMORPG fundamentally does away with classes and levels, there are so-called skill levels. If you play with a sword for a while, you will slowly get better with the sword.
The same applies to life skills like cooking and crafting. Furthermore, you can find various elemental skills that can greatly influence your build. However, you are limited in how many you can equip, making decisions significant.
Rare artifacts that you can carry with you work similarly. They provide you with various bonuses and are an important part of your equipment.
In addition to the wars and PvP battles in Profane, you will spend a good part of your time improving your character, even if it cannot level up in the traditional sense.
The developers regularly share updates on the game, including videos like this one:
How does full-loot PvP work? Anyone in the world of Profane who belongs to a different faction can kill you. And not only that, they can take everything you are carrying. A mechanic more commonly known from survival games.
However, the developers emphasize that this should not be the end of the world. Equipment in Profane is more of a nice gimmick than actually essential. It gives you certain bonuses to stats that you already possess.
Equipment is also supposed to be very easy to reacquire as it does not hold significant value in the MMORPG. Nevertheless, one is well advised to store rare items in their own house or the bank, as they are safe from other players there.
How does endgame work? Since Profane focuses on PvP, that is also a huge part of the endgame. The battles for territories and strongholds should be central. Defending your own city should also be a major aspect.
Much more is currently unknown about the endgame. It remains uncertain whether more PvE content will be added, as Profane knows what kind of game it wants to be. And it is at home in PvP.
“The game sounds like what I wish New World had been.”
What does the community say? The game was featured in a spotlight on reddit (via reddit) and the comments underneath are predominantly positive. Some see in Profane what New World should have been.
- User B3K1ND writes: “I love seeing more indie developers making MMOs. I love the art style, it looks great. The game sounds like what I wish New World had been.”
- Even user kindafunnylookin likes the concept: “Friendly fire sounds awesome. I wish more games would do that. Large PvP battles would require way more skill from players and it wouldn’t just be the one with the biggest group winning.”
- MrMan9001 is more skeptical: “It looks really ambitious, which makes me skeptical. Many ideas sound interesting and plausible, while other things sound like they might not work very well. […] I truly hope the game is a success. But I’m not sure how realistic some of the ideas are. I wish you the best of luck and will definitely keep an eye on the game.”
How can you play? Profane is currently in an alpha status and regularly conducts tests in which you can participate. The beta phase will then follow a buy-to-play model.
When the game is ultimately released, Profane is expected to be free-to-play and offer an in-game shop without pay-to-win aspects. A release on Steam is not currently planned by the team. Additionally, Profane will initially be available only for Windows.
No release timeframe for the MMORPG has been established yet. However, seeing the latest video update from the developers, it’s clear there is still a lot of work to be done. We do not expect a release before 2022.
What do you think of Profane? Will you try it and find the full-loot PvP exciting? Or does that part rather deter you, but you find the progression without levels interesting? Feel free to let us know in the comments here at MeinMMO.
