The creators of Black Desert, Pearl Abyss, have announced that they are developing a new MMORPG. It is codenamed “Project V” and is set to come with a new engine. It is intended to be a game for the whole family.
What’s behind Project V: Pearl Abyss announced “Project V” a few hours ago.
It is meant to be a “lovable family MMORPG that everyone can enjoy together. It will be a “casual MMORPG”. This is evident from a Facebook post by Pearl Abyss.
At the moment, we do not know when it will be released, for which platforms it will be available, and how it will look in terms of a port to the West:
- An image shows a girl sitting alone on a pole with a skateboard and a type of vacuum cleaner
- In a reflection behind her, however, it can be seen that other animal and plant beings have also taken a seat on the pole with her
- In the background of the image, futuristic skyscrapers can be seen.
Perhaps this is a nod to an “Augmented Reality” or “Virtual Reality” setting.
What’s special about it: As MMOCulture reports, Project V uses a completely new game engine that has been specifically created for new games.
It does not use the engine from Black Desert, as that is already 9 years old. The new engine is intended to propel Pearl Abyss forward and enable them to compete with AAA titles globally.
Another project from Pearl Abyss, the online shooter Project K, is being developed with this engine.
Pearl Abyss’s big ambitions
These are Pearl Abyss’s ambitions: The Black Desert developers from South Korea have gained momentum in recent years.
Thanks to the tremendous success of Black Desert Mobile in Asia, their war chests are well-filled. Thus, Pearl Abyss has acquired the EVE Online developers CCP Games.
Additionally, a large new headquarters in South Korea is currently under construction.
