A new MMORPG based on Civilization has been announced in China. The Transformers are also getting an action MMO. Both games, Civilization Online and Transformers Online, are coming from the company that is developing the new LOTR MMO in collaboration with Amazon. They are expected to be released for PC and consoles, likely for PS4 and Xbox One.
Why are there just new updates? The “China Joy” event is currently taking place, which is essentially the GamesCom of China.
There, the developer “Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited” showcased two new online MMOs. However, no images or videos have been shown yet.
From the company, we heard here in the West, when they made a deal with Amazon to develop a new LOTR MMO. This is supposed to be released for PC and “consoles” (likely PS4 and Xbox One).
Now, two new games have been introduced that are also supposed to come for PC and consoles.

Transformers and Civilization Online for PC and “Consoles”
These are the two new games:
- “Transformers Online” is being developed by the US studio Certain Affinity. Here, the Chinese have invested $10 million. The studio has already participated in Halo and Call of Duty titles. The game is expected to be a free-to-play first-person shooter and will be released for PC and “gaming consoles.” This typically refers to PS4 and Xbox One.
- The MMORPG is based on “Civilization” and is called “Civilization Online.” This game is also expected to be released for PC and consoles once it is out.

Previous attempts by other studios failed
This is the special part: The interesting thing is that there have been attempts in recent years to turn the brands Transformers and Civilization into MMOs. However, both have failed. The new games apparently have nothing to do with the old ones:
- “Civilization Online” was a strategy MMO by XLGames, the creators of ArcheAge. In Civilization Online, players could lead a civilization through the centuries. Civilization Online was discontinued in 2016.
- Transformers Online also previously existed from the Chinese giant Tencent. It resembled Overwatch but with Transformers – but nothing came of it.
There is no further information available about the new MMOs and MMORPGs from Leyou.
But today, it’s already newsworthy when new MMOs and MMORPGs come from Asia that are not explicitly designed for the booming Asian mobile market.
