There are games set in the Warhammer universe across various genres, and they enjoy great popularity among players. Currently, a new mobile MMORPG called Odyssey is in development. This reveals new details in a video.
What kind of game is this? Warhammer Odyssey will be a free-to-play MMORPG by Virtual Realms. It will be released for Android and iOS, but is not supposed to play like a typical mobile MMORPG.
Odyssey forgoes auto-play and is intended to be more in line with the gameplay of PC MMORPGs. The focus is on PvE and playing in small groups, although there are also plans for PvP that have not been published yet.
The game takes you to iconic places such as:
- Marienburg
- Drakwald Forest
- Wasteland
In a new video, the developers gave a first glimpse into the character editor of the game. However, it is somewhat limited even by mobile standards.
A limited editor
What do you see in the video? In the character editor, you have the choice between 6 classes, each automatically tied to a race:
- Archmage – Elf
- Shadow Warrior – Elf
- Witch Hunter – Human
- Warrior Priest – Human
- Slayer – Dwarf
- Engineer – Dwarf
You can customize your character in 8 different settings, but you always have a limited selection. For example, the Warrior Priest only has 5 different faces available. The editor is therefore by no means as extensive as in Black Desert or similar titles.
What is the mood like under the video? Even though there are few customization options, the video is well received by viewers. Many express great anticipation for the new Warhammer title.
Especially the Warrior Priest class is praised for being iconic in the old PC MMORPG Age of Reckoning.
Finally another Warhammer MMORPG
Anticipation despite Mobile? Odyssey will be a mobile MMORPG and this genre is often frowned upon in the West. It is often equated with pay-to-win and autoplay.
However, the new Warhammer game is currently well received. A video introducing Marienburg, the capital of Odyssey, currently has nearly 20,000 views and only 29 dislikes (as of April 27).
In general, there is a lot of interest in a new Warhammer MMORPG, as the private server “Return of Reckoning” shows. The game that was closed in 2013 is currently experiencing a massive boom, partly due to more and more Twitch streamers and YouTubers becoming aware of the server.
It is quite possible that a well-made mobile MMORPG in this universe will be received positively.
When will Odyssey be released: In an update regarding the current Corona pandemic (via Twitter), the developers announced that a beta is currently planned for the first half of 2020.
However, there is no exact release date yet.
