With Project C, the developers want to “reinvent” open-world online games. First players will soon see what this looks like when they are ready to spend 150 dollars.
What is Project C? The Sandbox MMO is being developed by a team consisting of former Rockstar Games, Valve, and Ubisoft employees. The title immerses you in the open world of Corvus, populated by both other players and NPCs. This game world is intended to constantly evolve and change. The SpatialOS technology is utilized.
You have complete freedom in developing your hero as there are no classes. Your actions will affect the world through “butterfly effects.” However, players should not see Project C as a classic survival MMO but rather as a kind of virtual second home.
The expensive alpha begins soon
How far along is the game? The developers have now announced that the alpha will start at the end of October. A precise date will be announced later. So far, Project C has been in the pre-alpha phase.
How can you participate in the alpha? The development studio Darewise has started the sale of a first founder package. This gives you access to the alpha, an early start at the game’s release, three keys that you can gift, as well as some in-game items, e-books, the soundtrack, and in-game currency worth 140 dollars.
What does the founder package cost? For the Visionary Pack, however, you pay 150 euros.
Are there any other founder packages? Currently, it is only possible to purchase the Visionary Pack. Other founder packages are in preparation, but you can only join in later alpha phases with these.
Players remain skeptical
What do players think about Project C? The community is showing some skepticism. This is due to several reasons:
- The developers promise simply extremely much, and it is uncertain whether they can deliver on that
- Other MMOs with SpatialOS have failed
- Players are concerned about the in-game currency and fear a pay-to-win system
- No gameplay material has been shown yet
- Darewise is known for the failed survival game ROKH
- Many consider the price of the founder package too high
Of course, players also show interest in Project C as the descriptions by the developers sound very promising. However, skepticism still prevails at the moment.
