Wargaming, the developers of World of Tanks and Co, are planning a new MMO shooter. They are working with the shooter experts from Frag Lab and online giant Amazon.
What is Wargaming planning? According to a press release, the developer Wargaming, known for World of Tanks, aims to develop a “NextGen Free2Play shooter”.
The game will be based on Amazon’s modern Lumberyard Engine and utilize additional Amazon Web Services: These are particularly well-suited for simulating vast worlds.
Moreover, dedicated servers from Amazon GameLift will be utilized.

What is the Lumberyard Engine? The Lumberyard engine is a version of the CryEngine that is specifically designed for Twitch. The large streaming platform also belongs to Amazon.
The Lumberyard engine is also used by the promising MMORPG New World as well as by the space saga Star Citizen.
Warface developers are on board
Who else is involved in the project? Wargaming is also developing their new game in collaboration with the studio Frag Labs. They consist of 125 employees and are located in Kiev, Ukraine.
Frag Labs was behind the shooter Warface, but the Ukrainians were also involved in Crysis and Battlefield 2. They thus have experience with military shooters.

Wargaming aims to combine their own experience in developing Free2Play models with the shooter expertise of Frag Labs in the new project.
What will Wargaming’s shooter MMO be? What exactly Wargaming, Amazon, and Frag Labs are planning is not known. However, they intend to release more detailed information later this year.
Given Wargaming and Frag Labs’ previous development history, it could likely be a military shooter similar to Warface. The focus on the Lumberyard engine and Amazon also suggests a strong Twitch affinity and a large world with many players in it.
