A new MMO called Ring of Titans has launched in Early Access on Steam, focusing entirely on PvP. You fight against other players in various arenas. The concept and general structure of the game remind many of the arenas in WoW, as mentioned in the reviews.
What kind of game is this? In Ring of Titans, you play as a Titan, competing against other players in PvP:
- You can fight in 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3 matches. There are also bot rounds for training.
- You choose one of eight different Titans, each possessing all skills, abilities, and talents right from the start.
- You have access to 12 different abilities and can select two from 6 class talents and 6 general talents.
- All players have the same gear, and there is no RNG, such as critical hits or random resistances. Only skill should decide.
- There is a leaderboard that you can climb.
- There is a spectator mode and replays for your matches.
- The game does not include Pay2Win elements.
Ring of Titans has been in Early Access since March 1 and is free to play. The developers promise several updates before the full release, including new Titans.
How does the game get funded? There is a shop where you can purchase skins for mounts, armor, and titles. However, these have no impact on the gaming experience.
The YouTuber Snupy has checked out the game and made a video about it:
Plays like an arena in WoW, but without the grind beforehand
How is the game received? At the time of writing, Ring of Titans has 334 reviews, with 78% being positive. These reviews praise the action-packed and fun nature of the battles and especially highlight that there is no grind in the game. You don’t have to level or gear up a character like in WoW; you have immediate access to all content.
The user Zeecho writes in his review:
This game is perfect for arena lovers from all genres. No gear, no leveling, and no major preparation. Just log in, choose a Titan, and play. The developer seems fully committed to improving the game and actually listens to the community, making appropriate changes. Highly recommended!
The user Ape compares the game to Battlerite and calls it a “must play” for all fans of arena games (via Steam).
What do the critics say? Criticism is currently focused primarily on the very long rounds, balance issues, especially regarding crowd control, and the fact that the game seems too closely oriented to WoW. This negatively affects some players.
The user Volare writes:
This game is obviously still in an early stage of development, but given its strong resemblance to WoW Arena, one would expect them to have the foresight to consider WoW’s class balance.
However, they seem to lack this insight, and the apparent discrepancies in the classes, especially for 1v1, are very obvious from the start. CCs in this game are far too long, and it seems apparent that they could optimize such numbers immediately, but the fact that they haven’t already done so tells me that either they don’t play it, or they are simply unaware of how unbalanced they have made the game.
How many players are playing Ring of Titans? At peak, the new PvP game reached 430 simultaneous players. However, the numbers have already dropped significantly. At the best time in the last 24 hours, there were 21 players online at the same time. At the time of writing (April 19 at 1:00 PM), there were 5 active players.
What do you think of the game’s concept? Does such an arena setting appeal to you in general? Or do you prefer PvP in MMORPGs?
