Digital Extremes, the developers behind the new MMO “Soulframe” have released new material regarding the gameplay. The world looks idyllic, but the combat system strongly resembles well-known games from the Souls genre.
What has been released? Over the weekend, on August 26, 2023, TennoCon 2023 took place. During this event, the 10th anniversary of Warframe was celebrated, and correspondingly, many news regarding the developers’ ongoing projects were revealed. One topic was Soulframe, a new MMO known only from teaser trailers up to now.
Besides the developers, no one really knew in which direction the game was going, but TennoCon provided new insights into the universe, combat system, as well as the graphics and features. One thing can be said – those who love Warframe and Elden Ring will also celebrate Soulframe.
Soulframe is the exact opposite of Warframe
What does the showcase show? The developers revealed a short teaser followed by a long 30-minute showcase. This included, among other things:
- Demonstrated battles
- Explored the scenery
- Cleared a dungeon
- Explained mechanics

Fact is, the game looks incredibly good and allows one to immerse immediately into the world. The graphics and the design of the environment are idyllic and at first glance resemble those from Elden Ring.
Also, the combat system cannot be compared to Warframe. In Soulframe, it’s not about speed but about tactics. You do not jump around like a space ninja, but observe your enemies, choose a strategy, and then strike skillfully.
In battle, your sword and a special magic bound to your arm will assist you. Depending on which special spirit you have equipped, your magic also changes. In the showcase, the player was able to petrify enemies with a green bird.
Despite this, fans of Warframe will feel at home. The enemies as well as the protagonist strongly resemble the design of Warframe. Moreover, Soulframe also features a camp where you can rest, re-equip, or even change outfits – just like in Warframe with the Liset.
The showcase already provided a great insight into the world of Soulframe, but there is still a long way to go until the release.
