This year, the GO Tour in Pokémon GO is taking place again. However, a recent announcement about the event is causing frustration in the community.
Meanwhile, there are 3 major annual events in Pokémon GO: the GO Tour, the GO Fest, and the GO Nature Zone. These 3 major events are always held first as local variants in selected cities and then as a global event for all trainers worldwide.
The local edition of the GO Tour will take place in Tainan and Los Angeles from February 20 to 22, 2026, before the global variant follows on February 28 and March 1, 2026. However, the current information about the event’s content is not generating much enthusiasm in the community.
Mega Monsters, Mega Disappointment
What kind of content is this? In a short video on X, the developers of Pokémon GO announced 2 new Mega Evolutions for the GO Tour. These are the Mega Evolutions of Victreebel and Malamar.
While the base forms of both monsters have been present in the Pokémon world for a while, their Mega Evolutions debuted only in Pokémon Legends Z-A.
Both Mega monsters will debut in the local edition of the GO Tour 2026 but will shortly thereafter also be available in the global variant for all trainers worldwide. You can find more known content for the GO Tour 2026 here.
What does the community say about it? The announcement has met with a lot of negative feedback in the community. This year’s GO Tour is inspired by the Kalos region. This is where the Pokémon X and Y games of the 6th generation took place, where the Mega Evolutions of Mewtwo made their debut.
As instead of these developments, for which there were recently new hints in Pokémon GO, other ones were announced now, many trainers are disappointed. Some of the comments about this on Reddit say:
