The MMORPG Reign of Guilds (Steam) was originally slated for release in the first quarter of 2022, but like many games in recent years, it has struggled with delays. However, you can participate in the second official playtest now, completely free of charge. We at MeinMMO will reveal what it contains.
What kind of game is Reign of Guilds? The MMORPG focuses on a more classic experience, reminiscent of older genre representatives. Nonetheless, the game impresses with beautiful graphics and some unique twists.
Although the game relies on classic medieval fantasy, it immerses you in the world from a first-person perspective and delivers action-combat instead of outdated tab-targeting.
At the heart of Reign of Guilds is the conflict between the guilds that bear its name. These guilds compete for control over the more than 60 cities in the game world and the associated control over specific regions.
How does the world work? This also means that open-world PvP is enabled in almost all areas of Reign of Guilds. This is tied to a karma system, which in the best case crowns you as the holy one if you stomp enough evil players into the ground. If you prefer to attack defenseless victims, you lose karma and eventually become a “psycho”.
As such, you lead a difficult life in the open world of the MMORPG. Other players do not lose karma when they execute you, and worse, you also lose parts of your equipment and experience when you, as a bad boy, kick the bucket.

Classes that focus solely on crafting and massive guild wars
What features are included? Ultimately, Reign of Guilds is supposed to feature several exciting features, including the following:
- Alliances as well as guild wars with up to 150 players at once
- Player housing and managing entire cities and lands
- Dungeons, raids, and world bosses
- 14 different classes, some of which, like the weaponsmith, focus solely on crafting
- A sophisticated crafting system in which you can build the strongest items yourself
- First-person view for combat, with third-person also possible outside of that
What payment system is behind it? The MMORPG completely forgoes direct pay-to-win, but there should also be no “indirect pay-to-win.” By this, the developers mean certain premium features, often referred to as pay-to-progress.
In return, Reign of Guilds will be a pay-to-play title that you still need to purchase. This means that you must buy the game once and also pay a monthly fee to play. Very much like World of Warcraft.

When can you play Reign of Guilds? Currently, the developers have started the second official playtest for the game. This has been running since February 4th and will remain online until the evening of February 7th.
To participate, you simply need to go to the game’s Steam page and click on “Request access.” In our tests, we received confirmation within seconds that we were in and could then download the game immediately.
However, please note that this is a very early playtest taking place before the planned early access – so do not expect a bug-free and polished MMORPG.

When is Reign of Guilds being released? However, when the game is actually supposed to be released is currently unclear. Reign of Guilds regularly receives updates on Steam, and the development seems to be progressing, but the game’s website itself has likely not been touched for a while. It still mentions a release in 2021.
Originally, the early access was planned for the first quarter of 2022, but when this will now happen is also unclear. However, there is hope, as the current playtest is already the second in the young 2023.
