It is no secret that the story of One Piece is very long. Newcomers may find it difficult to get into the story. Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka of One Piece, is therefore releasing several shortened versions of the story. MeinMMO reveals why these versions might also be something for One Piece veterans.
What are these shortened versions? As part of the magazine “Shueisha Jump Remix,” Oda is publishing a new manga series that is a revised version of his original work. In the “Jump Character Remix,” there are no proper story arcs. Instead, the volumes will only contain chapters that were relevant to one of the respective Straw Hats.

The chapters of the manga volumes are arranged chronologically. So far, remix volumes have been announced for three characters:
- Starting with Straw Hat Captain Luffy. Two volumes have already been released for him, which have been available in Japanese since July 4, 2024.
- On August 2, 2024, the volume for Roronoa Zoro is set to follow. This volume will likely begin the story with his training partner Kuina.
- On the same day, the volume for Nami will be released. Here, we will likely start in her hometown of Kokos.
Thus, the manga follows the announcement of an anime series that will also condense the story to its essentials. Each of the individual volumes consists of 580 pages, making them significantly shorter than the entire manga of One Piece. To date, the original manga includes 109 volumes, each with around 210 pages.
Whether more characters will follow in the manga series is currently unknown. Presumably, at least the volumes for Usopp and Sanji will follow. Especially Sanji’s childhood is interesting, which came to light for the first time in the Whole Cake Island arc.
The remix series comes from Eiichiro Oda and could clarify which events from the films and the anime are canon. One of the films that relies heavily on fan service is Stampede:
Manga Remix perfect for newcomers and veterans
Who are the new Character Remix volumes suitable for? All new readers who have not had much to do with the One Piece manga so far could use the Character Remix volumes to catch up on the story as quickly as possible.
The volumes lack some information about characters who were not present for the respective character. However, Luffy’s volume, which even consists of two issues, should have summarized the most important parts of the story.
However, experienced One Piece fans might also enjoy the volumes. There will be special information about each of the Straw Hats that may not have been shown in the manga. This way, every fan can focus on their favorite character.
The major downside is that the volumes are currently only available in Japanese. Therefore, you can only purchase the books in Japan for now. One option would be to order the book for about 5 euros on Amazon Japan. However, import fees and around 17 euros shipping costs will be added to this.
The manga volumes could introduce characters that were not seen in the original work. Already in the Netflix adaptation, there was an opponent that Oda had actually forgotten: In the Netflix series of One Piece, there is a character that the creator couldn’t even remember
