In League of Legends some new skins have been introduced. One of these skins is for the champion Tryndamere and features a special animation. This shows how long his ultimate lasts. Players see this as a clear disadvantage and refer to it as “pay-to-lose.”
What is the problem with the skin? On the test server, the upcoming patch 11.19 can already be tested. This brings, alongside the new champion Vex, several skins. However, the Nightbringer skin for Tryndamere is now heavily criticized.
A video from a Polish LoL website shows that the new skin generates an animation for the ultimate that counts down like a clock. Once the “clock” expires, the ultimate ends.
During the ultimate, Tryndamere is immortal. As soon as it ends, enemies can deal damage and defeat him again. An animation that shows the exact moment for the end of immortality is thus counterproductive and plays into the enemy’s hands.

Much mockery, but also fear of further nerfs
How are players reacting? Players have mixed reactions to this skin. On one hand, there are users who mock it and label the skin as “pay-to-lose” (via reddit). You pay for a new skin that increases the risk of losing.
On the other hand, there are also players who worry that the timer for the ultimate will now be introduced for all skins and also for the original model of Tryndamere due to this skin. Some users on reddit even demand this.
It would not be the first time Riot reacts this way, as champions Kassadin and Janna have gone through something similar:
- With Kassadin, it was the Hextech skin, which was considered “pay-to-lose” because it precisely showed where Kassadin jumps with his ultimate. Later, this was introduced for all skins and the base model as well.
- With Janna, it was the Starguardian skin that also showed her ability “Q” – the whirlwind – in bushes. This has now become standard for all models.
It is, however, clear that purchasing the new Tryndamere skin brings more disadvantages than advantages to the player. It remains to be seen whether Riot will change anything before the release of patch 11.19 or will only respond to this animation later.
When is patch 11.19 released? The patch 11.19 is expected to be released on Wednesday, September 22. It will be the patch on which the upcoming world championships will also take place.
