In the course of the presentation of the Worm Cult seasons, the developers of Elder Scrolls Online showed a new live-action trailer, which is now also available on YouTube. Many MMORPG fans are reminded nostalgically of other online role-playing games by the scenes.
What kind of trailer is this? During the livestream surrounding the presentation of the Worm Cult seasons, the developers of Elder Scrolls Online also showed a new live-action trailer in which people break out of their normal daily routine to create their own adventure in Tamriel.
In one scene, a soccer player breaks into the depths of the fantasy world, while in another, an office worker exchanges her chair for a mountain to gaze at the magnificent Gold Road from there. They take on different class roles, accompanied by the promise: “You can be anything you can imagine.” But see for yourself:
Mr. T says hello
How does the community react to the trailer? Generally very positively, although some players criticize the use of gender-neutral language at one point on YouTube.
- DennisHopper311 writes: “Always cool and elaborate, these live-action trailers.”
- Lope-di5yz praises: “Super cool made and finally also in German, you could do that more often, I really like it, ESO 4 ever.”
- roarmonkey explains: “Great trailer, only the gender-neutral language needs to go … that’s annoying.”
Players are not only discussing the video on YouTube, but also on various community platforms. There, various genre fans feel reminded of other MMORPGs by the scenes and slogans.
orcvader recalls on Reddit the old WoW slogans, in which stars like Chuck Norris, Mr. T, William Shatner, or even Ozzy Osbourne advertised for World of Warcraft: “‘I am a Night Elf Mohawk’ – These are the memories that the trailer brought back.” If you have never seen the spot, here it is:
Special_Grapefroot, on the other hand, feels reminded of yet another MMORPG: “True MMO players remember the EQOA advertisement ‘It’s time to slay the dragon.’ This ESO advertisement is the spiritual successor.”
EQOA refers to EverQuest Online Adventures, which Sony Online Entertainment released in 2003. The service was discontinued in March 2012. You can also find this old-school advertisement spot on YouTube – and the similarities to the new trailer for ESO are unmistakable. Therefore, SandboxQuint also agrees on Reddit: “That was also my first thought when I saw the trailer!”
