The new horror co-op game from developer Vaulted Sky Games is showing strong viewer numbers on Twitch. Midnight Ghost Hunt even briefly outpaced the major genre competitor Dead by Daylight. MeinMMO gives you an insight into the launch of this co-op horror title.
What is Midnight Ghost Hunt? Midnight Ghost Hunt is a cooperative horror game developed by Vaulted Sky Games, available on Steam since March 31, 2022.
In the co-op game, you take on the roles of ghosts or hunters. As a ghost, you possess objects. As a hunter, you must successfully hunt the ghosts before midnight. Because at midnight, the ghosts turn the tables and the hunters become the hunted.
The gameplay is reminiscent of hide and seek. Unlike comparable genre representatives, it features a 4v4 format. This sets Midnight Ghost Hunt apart from Dead by Daylight or Friday the 13th, for example.

Midnight Ghost Hunt on Twitch just ahead of PUBG and Dead by Daylight
The numbers on Twitch: Midnight Ghost Hunt had a particularly strong release on Twitch. On launch day, March 31, 2022, the co-op horror game reached a peak of 66,000 concurrent viewers. Within a week, the game amassed a remarkable 1.39 million watched hours across all channels (via SullyGnome.com).
Notably, at the peak viewer count, only 160 different channels were streaming Midnight Ghost Hunt. In comparison, the “Battle Royale” giant PUBG had 19,500 viewers at that time, spread across 1,100 channels (via SullyGnome.com).
PUBGs peak viewer count later on March 31 reached 25,700, which at least rose to 56,400 the following day (via SullyGnome.com). While PUBG’s viewer numbers fluctuated, Midnight Ghost Hunt showed a decline in viewer numbers just a few days after release.
By April 1, the peak value was “only” 50,100 and by April 2, it was 33,200 viewers. (via SullyGnome.com). Thus, the high release value currently seems to be stabilizing. The resulting average viewer count for the last seven days (of the release week) was 9,699, spread across an average of 77 Twitch channels (as of April 5, 2022, 11:50 AM – via TwitchTracker.com).
How does it compare to genre competitors? One of the biggest genre competitors to Midnight Ghost Hunt is probably Dead by Daylight among horror co-op games.
The title from developer Behaviour Interactive had a day-specific peak of 38,100 viewers on March 31, the day of the “Midnight Ghost Hunt” release. However, at the time of the 66,000 “Midnight Ghost Hunt” viewers, the value of active viewers in Dead by Daylight dropped to 29,700 (via SullyGnome.com).
This, however, is not a bad value compared to the average viewer counts of Dead by Daylight. On average, the horror title has 28,400 viewers (as of April 5, 2022, 11:50 AM via TwitchTracker.com).
German Twitch streamer Dhalucard also played Midnight Ghost Hunt. He is known for regularly streaming Dead by Daylight as well. But also internationally famous streamers like xQcOW, forsen, and sodapoppin checked out this horror title.
In recent years, there have been several co-op games that attracted horror genre fans. In addition to numerous zombie or horror survival games, PvP titles especially have built their own fanbase.
Two strong representatives of the genre, besides the new Midnight Ghost Hunt, are especially the long-lasting Dead by Daylight and the now-defunct Friday the 13th.
Do you think Midnight Ghost Hunt can fill the gap left by the shutdown of the game featuring Jason Voorhees?
