Fans of horror animes and mangas are likely already familiar with Junji Ito. The manga artist has become known for his eerie horror stories. The Uzumaki series is among his most famous works and is getting its own anime series. The new trailer reveals when we can look forward to the anime.
What kind of anime is it? Uzumaki has nothing to do with the ninja from Konohagakure, who is getting his own crossover with the Ninja Turtles. It is a creepy story revolving around spirals.
- In the small town of Kurouzu, supernatural phenomena suddenly occur. The spirals that give the title are involved in this.
- The residents of the small town suddenly go crazy. For example, a man becomes possessed by spirals. He has to find them in his food and bathwater.
- There are even fatalities and natural disasters associated with the spirals .
The new anime is said to consist of four episodes in total. It is not known whether it will adapt the complete three-part manga series from 1998.
However, the new trailer already shows that the scale of the supernatural phenomena will play an important role:

What makes it so special? The residents of the small town fall into a madness that revolves around the spirals. The trailer clearly shows how creatively this madness has been implemented:
- The pupils of a character suddenly start to spin.
- The tongue of a character also turns into a spiral.
- There are even people whose bodies spin around their own axis. The probably most horrifying scene is at minute 0:35, where a person is completely wrapped up in a container.
Just the soundtrack of the trailer makes it clear how creepy the anime will become. But the visuals also give us such a shiver while watching that we can’t wait to see Junji Ito’s grotesque ideas in an animated series.
When will it be released? The trailer reveals when we can watch the series. Accordingly, it will be available on September 28, 2024. The anime will air on Adult Swim, and the next day it will be available on Max (HBO Max).
