On Steam, you can now play the MMORPG Reign of Darkness in Early Access. The MMORPG aims to impress you with old virtues. We show a trailer and look at what the unique twist of the new indie MMORPG is.
What is Reign of Darkness about? The MMORPG takes you to the Middle Ages, at a time when the plague was rampant. To eradicate the disease, people turned to dark arts and summoned demons to protect them.
In doing so, a dark and powerful being entered the world, wanting to consume everything. The darkness that poured from the creature through the portal now infects the entire land.
You are trying to survive in this world and must fight against the darkness and the demons.
A 1-Man MMORPG
What is special about the MMORPG? Reign of Darkness is inspired by the 3D MMORPGs of the first generation, such as Everquest.
You will not be guided along and given exact explanations on what to do.
You basically have to figure everything out yourself through playing. The MMORPG is aimed at a hardcore player base that wants to relive this feeling of starting “blind” into an MMORPG.
Moreover, behind Reign of Darkness is only a single developer. Nevertheless, he has managed to release a functional MMORPG in Early Access.
What features does the MMORPG offer? The online game aims to impress you with interesting gameplay elements. These include:
- You improve your hero through skills, creating unique classes.
- Classic tab-targeting combat
- Classic MMORPG gameplay
- Dungeon runs
- Dark and brutal atmosphere
Since when can you play? The MMORPG has been available on Steam since November 20th. The Early Access version costs €16.79.
Players like the MMORPG in early Steam reviews
How is the MMORPG received? The game has only been available for two days and has basically garnered little attention so far. Therefore, the player numbers don’t look so good yet. According to Steamcharts, there are only about 12 players active at the same time.
The first reviews are, however, mostly positive. It brings back the classic feeling of gameplay from earlier times. But the title is still not finished, and you can tell that. After all, the MMORPG is still in Early Access.
- Live Strong says on Steam: “The game is great for an Early Access release. I would suggest that more people jump into the game if they are looking for a hardcore MMORPG.”
- hubble writes: “If you are looking for a game where you can grind with a small community and create your own unique class through spells and passives, then this is the right place for you. It is not a game for you if you do not want to figure it out yourself. The community will help you, but not the game.”
