Galaxies of Eden is a new sandbox MMORPG with a sci-fi setting. The game promises a lot of freedom and especially many social features. Those who want can even completely avoid fighting and instead focus on building a city.
What kind of game is it? Galaxies of Eden aims to focus on social interaction. Therefore, there are two different modes in the game:
- The Action Mode, where the MMORPG is meant to be played like a third-person shooter
- The Social Mode, where the focus is on trading, housing, and building your own cities
The MMORPG completely forgoes loot in the form of equipment. You do get loot from mobs in the form of crafting materials or general items, but for equipment, you need a crafter of your trust who produces the items. Because there will also be no global auction house.
Another special feature is the construction of your own cities. Because in Galaxies of Eden, there is only one NPC city. The rest can be built by players in the open world.
In the official presentation of the game, it says: “Although all MMORPGs are social games to some extent, we want Galaxies of Eden to become the most social MMORPG on the market.”
When will the game be released? The game is being developed by the Canadian indie studio MIR Cybernetics in Unreal Engine 4. It is currently still in pre-alpha. An initial alpha is set to start in Q2 2022.
A glimpse into the basic gameplay is offered by this first trailer:
The MMORPG offers classes that don’t have to fight
What classes are there? Galaxies of Eden offers 3 different play styles that each have their own focus but are still dependent on one another:
- The Adventurer is the combat class. It has many abilities, completes dungeons and quests, and collects crafting materials. Like in a shooter, you can save different loadouts, and you will also be able to play as a healer.
- The Industrialist focuses on trading. He creates new equipment and weapons and can set up a trading stand where players can sell their goods.
- The Artist, in turn, creates unique performances, can enhance the abilities of other players, and takes care of purchase contracts. These purchase contracts are needed by Industrialists to complete a trade.
All play styles build on each other. The Adventurer brings materials for the Industrialist and the Artist, the Industrialist takes care of crafting equipment and trading, and the Artist creates special performances like new dances, prepares sales contracts for the Industrialist, and enhances the abilities of the Adventurer.
This dependency is meant to last because the equipment wears out over time and will eventually be destroyed. Then you will need to seek out the crafter of your trust again to get good weapons. The crafter will, in turn, need new contracts repeatedly.
Additionally, the developers promise that a particularly skilled Industrialist can engrave a unique motto on each piece of equipment. Furthermore, new social specializations are planned, including the Musician and the Journalist.
Server wars and drama in the endgame
What does the endgame of the game look like? In the endgame, the MMORPG focuses on wars between servers in addition to building your own cities and the equipment loop. These are intended to be seasonal events.
Players can join as diplomats in the Galactic Council of the server and declare war. Rewards include emotes and cosmetic items, with the best reward going to the victorious server. This is meant to create drama.
For PvP, there will be a separate balance that should not affect PvE.
What do you think of the concept of Galaxies of Eden? Does the system appeal to you, or do you think it is too niche? And is the sci-fi setting something for you, or would you prefer such a game in a medieval or fantasy setting?
